JOB DESCRIPTION

Primary purpose:

This position as a Sr. Business Analyst plays a pivotal role within Tallgrass, facilitating strategic decision-making and operational excellence across our project management executing and operations. By analyzing sales and demand trends, you will provide critical insights that guide project controls and scheduling, optimize project development and execution efficiency, and identify strategic growth opportunities. Your work directly influences our ability to deliver high-quality project initiatives and deliverables efficiently, aligning perfectly with our core values of prioritizing safety and quality, ensuring service excellence, maintaining top-notch quality standards, and fostering innovation in reporting insights critical to the success of project management program development and execution.

In addition to data analysis, you will manage essential reporting tools such as Weekly, Monthly and Quarterly Operations Performance metrics and daily scorecards. These tools not only monitor our operational health of our program but also drive continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing productivity and reducing operational errors and costs. Your role extends beyond data crunching; you will collaborate closely with the entire value chain of Project Management and product development teams to assess the feasibility and cost implications of new product initiatives. This collaborative effort ensures that our project portfolio remains competitive and aligned with market demands, further solidifying Tallgrass's position as a leader in energy infrastructure development.

As a key member of cross-functional teams, you will champion initiatives aimed at improving processes and outcomes across the organization. Your ability to generate insightful graphical data for executive presentations will play a crucial role in strategic decision-making at the highest levels. Moreover, you will actively support initiatives like program portfolio reporting protocols and dashboard development and operational excellence insights, contributing to our mission of continuously improving our project management and execution practices and delivering superior products to our investors and stakeholders.Minimum requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Marketing, Management, Engineering, or a related discipline, with a minimum of 10 years' experience.
Or a minimum of fifteen (15) years' work experience as an analyst with reporting, invoicing, or natural gas pipeline system functionality design and testing may be accepted as a substitute for a degree

Experience/Specific Knowledge:


  • Experience with Crystal Reports, Power BI or other third-party reporting software.

  • General understanding of how corporate policies, procedures, practices, and processes relate to multiple business segments and internal and external customers/clients.

  • Intermediate proficiency level in MS Office applications that may include but are not limited to Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, MS Teams, SharePoint, Power BI and Outlook.

  • Established SQL skills in MS SQL and/or Oracle databases.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to collect and compile relevant data.

  • Extremely organized with great attention to detail.

  • Excellent ability to analyze information and think systematically.

  • Strong business analysis skills.

  • Works well independently and as part of a team.

  • Excellent organizational, time management and communication skills; must communicate effectively with all levels of company personnel.

  • Ability to handle databases and understand technology-driven business intelligence tools.

Certifications, Licenses & Registrations:
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (for travel).

PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

Above the minimum requirements, not required but advantageous in this position:


  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Marketing, Management, or Engineering.

  • Experience in the natural gas industry or regulated natural gas transportation environment is highly desirable.

  • Knowledge of FERC regulatory and accounting rules as well as Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) is desirable.

Experience with Natural Gas Pipeline Management systems

  • Market Analysis & Reporting:

  • Analyzes estimating, cost and schedule variance trends helping project execution make strategic decisions on reporting cadence, scheduling, and strategic opportunities.

  • Manages reporting tools such as weekly and monthly project performance, quarterly project performance, daily scorecards for safety, quality and field productions, and other key point indicators (KPI) and metrics that represent project execution health in almost a real time manner.

  • Works with sales, R&D, product development and other groups to determine feasibility and cost of new product introductions.

  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams to improve processes and outcomes.

  • Generates graphical data for inclusion in senior leadership team and executive leadership team presentations

  • Champion KPI teams by creating tools that allow for better messaging across the organization.

  • Supports Project Management and Project Controls by reviewing project estimates and costing.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Assemble, analyze and present information from various databases/datasets.

  • Data requests as needed. These requests include those from including but not limited to Corporate, Regulatory, Accounting Internal Audit and Management.

  • Builds SQL queries to extract data sets for analysis.

  • Translate business needs into data modeling, analytical or tool-building initiatives.

  • Utilize best practices to design, develop, and support Power BI report and visualizations.

  • Assist and mentor the Analyst-Business Process.

  • Thoroughly understand and apply appropriate business practices, rules of operation (Tariff) and rates to respective interstate natural gas rate schedules.

  • Understand physical operations of interstate gas pipelines and incorporate into sound business recommendations.

  • Effectively communicate issues which impact customers, financials and the goals of Business Management and Commercial Teams.

  • Routinely evaluates monthly processes for efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Collaborate with a variety of people with tact, courtesy, and professionalism.

  • Maintain regular, dependable attendance and a high level of performance.

  • Maintain a high regard for personal safety, the safety of company assets and employees, and the general public.

  • Other daily, weekly, monthly, or special projects may be assigned.

  • Complete special projects, annual objectives and other duties as assigned.
