Job Description:




The Provost invites applications from tenured faculty members for the position of Collegiate Professor in the Dickinson Community with a July 1, 2025 start date.





What is a Collegiate Professor?




Collegiate Professors work closely with Residential Life staff in their college/community to create activities and programming that make connections between students' living and learning experiences. They are advocates for students and mentors contributing to students' academic success. How each collegiate professor accomplishes this goal varies according to that person's vision for the college/community as developed alongside the staff and students. Collegiate professors report jointly to the assistant vice provost for academic enrichment and the director of Residential Life, and serve for a renewable term of three years. What Are the Goals for the Collegiate Professors?




The Collegiate Professor in the Dickinson Community will be part of a team working to:





  • create closer student-faculty relations outside the classroom and within the Dickinson Community

  • promote a broad range of informal and formal cultural, educational, and intellectual activities for the students

  • foster an intellectual climate where living and learning are joined and high-impact learning practices are accentuated

  • support an inclusive sense of community, global awareness, and intercultural connectedness within the residential college

  • increase the overall impact of the residential college system on undergraduate education and student success at Binghamton University





We are looking for someone who:





  • has a strong record of working closely with students to support their success

  • possesses the skills to make a positive impact on student lives outside the classroom

  • provides engaging ways to make learning experiences relevant to students

  • has the ability and energy to embrace new challenges

  • is effective at communication and developing congenial partnerships with a broad range of students, staff, and faculty from across the university

  • Has a demonstrated commitment to an inclusive campus

  • can effectively think and plan strategically to maximize the contribution of the residential colleges to the University's mission

  • recognizes that the role of Collegiate Professor will require irregular and extended hours interacting with students, and other campus groups on weekends, evenings, and during the summer

  • Understands that the role of Collegiate Professor is a public-facing one, serving as a representative of the University working with Admissions, Alumni Affairs, and Parent and Family Programs.

Other Details




Collegiate Professors are tenured members of the faculty, are appointed by the Provost, and report directly to the Assistant Vice Provost for Academic Enrichment. Collegiate Professors are appointed for a three-year term starting July 1, 2025, pending annual review, and receive a salary supplement in consideration of their additional duties, including some summer responsibilities (e.g., new student orientation and the common read program). The duties as Collegiate Professor replace approximately 50 percent of the normal teaching, research, and service duties.
