POSITION TITLE: Floral Clerk
ACCOUNTABLE TO: Store Manager
PRIMARY OBJECTIVE
To maintain plants and flowers and to assist customers in making selections of floral product
NATURE AND SCOPE
Emphasis in this position is ongoing department planning, execution and evaluation in order to ensure maximum sales and profit opportunities, effective cost control, efficient utilization of labor and strong customer service levels. Primary challenge is consistently meeting or exceeding department profit and labor goals. This position is responsible for providing effective training, development and work direction for department associates and requires the ability to encourage individual and group effort toward department objectives. This position requires ongoing judgement/decision making, social skills/verbal interaction, reading, writing, math, moderate to heavy lifting, walking, operation of forklift, pallet jack and box cutter. Position functions and work hours may vary according to business needs. Assignments and work direction are provided by the Store Manager or person in charge.
ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS
1. Develops effective daily/weekly work plan based on weekly sales projections, budgeted labor goals and previous operating results
- Analyzes sales and labor projections
- Plans promotions
- Determines work priorities and establishes work lists in order to consistently maintain adequate department conditions
- Determines work needs and writes labor schedule in most effective manner to meet these needs
- Communicates with Store Manager/Assistant Manager concerning ongoing department status. Including successes, problems and planning
- Participates in weekly store meetings

2. Implements and maintains coordinated, aggressive and creative merchandising plans, using Division guidelines, which maximize sales, variety and gross profit
- Consistently monitors sales of demand and profit items, shelf allocation, variety, movement and stock levels to properly order, merchandise and meet sales and gross profit goals
- Collaborates with vendors on approved space allocation, display and follows through on product quality, and credits as appropriate
- Ensures proper product quality, presentation and rotation
- Assists with stocking and display building

equipment operation (box cutter, forklift, shopping cart, pallet jack, pricing
gun), reaching, squatting, kneeling, stooping/bending

Occasional: Physical -climbing ladders, walking on uneven ground, crawling
3. Supervises Grocery associates to ensure efficient labor utilization and effectiveness in meeting department objectives
- Effectively communicates tasks and priorities
- Follows up to ensure proper task completion and adherence to store department policies and procedures
- Monitors sales per man-hour and payroll, and adjusts labor to production and work needs
- Ensures customers receive prompt and friendly service and assistance from all department associates
- Ensures proper product handling to control shrinkage and waste
- Able to supervise entire store when needed

4. Manages Produce Department receiving, invoicing, pricing, shrink control and inventory to ensure proper product control and that gross profit goals are met
- Supervises and assists to ensure accuracy and organization of receiving function
- Processes invoices accurately and timely, checks credits and transfer slips for accuracy and verifies purchase journal against receiving record
- Takes and documents accurate inventory
- Collaborates with Pricing Department and signing is accurately maintained for all items and systems and monitors price sensitive items in market

5. Supervises department safety and sanitation programs
- Ensures all associates are properly trained in equipment use, maintenance, and sanitation standards, proper lifting and all related safety rules and procedures
- Ensures no one under 18 years of age operates hazardous equipment
- Conducts department inspections and maintains safety checklist
- Reviews insurance allocation reports and itemized statements of loss reports

6. Performs Grocery Department personnel functions
- Interviews and makes hiring recommendations
- Ensures all new employees are properly trained to ensure competence in positions and for possible future development
- Conducts and ensures all probationary and regular performance reviews are completed
- Provides individual and group guidance and encouragement toward department objectives
- Recommends and administers corrective actions as appropriate
