The Office of Admissions is the front-facing department to the public for undergraduate recruitment for the Indiana University Bloomington campus. The Office of Admissions is responsible for recruiting the freshman class each year, counseling prospective students and their families about the admissions process, providing accurate information to the public about our recruiting requirements and standards, and marketing Indiana University Bloomington.
The role of the Diversity Recruitment and Outreach Team is to provide programming and develop relationships with historically marginalized populations, including students from different socioeconomic, geographic and racial/ethnic backgrounds. This is all done with the purpose of preparing them to attend Indiana University while seeing themselves as the leaders of tomorrow.
Job Summary
The graduate student intern helps to coordinate the work of the team at all levels. This role will support all diversity recruitment and outreach team programs and events as needed and assists students along their enrollment journey.
Department Specific Responsibilities:
Coordinates program logistical needs in collaboration with the diversity team event project lead.
Participates in the planning and implementation of diversity recruitment and outreach programs.
Participates with special on-campus programs related to special population recruitment.
Provides support to other diversity team Project Leads when needed.
Participates in ongoing research, benchmarking and special projects related to the work of the team.
Participates in day to day operations of the Office of Admissions (i.e. answering questions from prospective and admitted students in person, over the phone and through email).
Responds to visit requests and communicates with registrants and/or campus colleagues.
Develops special visit presentations for target populations and campus contacts.
Resolves questions and issues relating to services for target population groups and supporting programs.
Performs associated duties, as needed.
Attends meetings with team members.
Qualifications
EDCATION
Required
Currently enrolled as a student at Indiana University
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
2 years of experience working in a fast-paced, complex customer service area
Preferred
Experience in a higher education setting
SKILLS
Required
Proven ability to perform various tasks simultaneously with consistently high accuracy while dealing with the public in a high volume, high stress environment
Ability to exert a consistent positive temperament with continuous public interaction
Demonstrates analytical ability to resolve both administrative and procedural problems
Ability to exert initiative, reliability, flexibility, and positive attitude while handling stressful situations and confidential information and materials
Ability to exhibit competence, patience, and tact in a fast-paced environment
Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
