The Quality Engineer is responsible for engineering drawings, schematic diagrams, or formulas and confers with management or engineering staff to determine quality and reliability standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Develops and initiates standards and methods for inspection, testing and evaluation. This includes advanced quality planning documents, forms and instructions for recording, evaluating and reporting quality and reliability data.
Prepares and evaluates Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) documents for customers and suppliers.
Assists Advance Product Quality Planning (APQP) team with quality issues on new product launches including Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
Manages project timing plans with Gantt charts.
Assures the Lot Traceability program is effective and the program requirements are complied with.
Communicates with customers and suppliers (including corrective action reports). Maintains file of related correspondence.
Participates in defect/scrap reduction activities.
Assists in the purchase of Quality Assurance supplies and equipment.
Maintains current product drawing files, standards and related documents.
Establishes gage calibration procedures. Recalls gages for calibration at a predetermined time period (includes coordination with outside laboratories if required). Assures that gages are calibrated, identified and gage records are updated and placed on file.
Maintains records of and controls disposition of "Hold For Inspection" (discrepant) items.
Compiles and writes training material and conducts training sessions on quality control activities.
Selects products for tests at specified stages in production process and tests products for variety of qualities such as dimensions, performance and mechanical, electrical, or chemical characteristics. Does not require advanced Co-ordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) capability, however basic CMM may be required.
Monitors the SPC program on a continuing basis for adherence to its underlying principles and concepts. Performs process and machine capability studies as needed.
Records test data, applying statistical quality control procedures.
Evaluates data and writes reports to validate or indicate deviations from existing standards.
Recommends modifications of existing quality or production standards to achieve optimum quality within limits of equipment capability.
Sets up and performs destructive and nondestructive tests on materials, parts or products to measure performance, life or material characteristics.
Prepares graphs or charts of data or enters data into computer for analysis.
Maintains quality records in an orderly manner.
Maintains use and care of safety equipment and procedures in the quality control laboratory.

QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent from an accredited four-year college or university or two years of college in engineering/technical field.
3 years of experience in an injection molding shop with emphasis on process problem solving.
