Parent Support Specialist

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

The Parent Support Specialist will have a working understanding of the dynamics and needs of families with SED children or adolescents. Preference will be given to individuals who have experience caring for children, adolescents or family members with SED and/or other disabilities. Experience in providing direct service is preferred. The Parent Support Specialist will provide education, support and training for families of children in Community Based services so that they are able to make educated choices about their children's mental health treatment and education. They will enhance services to families. They shall encourage families to obtain broad based knowledge and information, and to engage in networking with other parents and mental health providers. Must self-identify as a person with lived experience in raising a child with Serious Emotional Disturbance (SED), SUD, or co-occurring mental health diagnosis.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Must be 21 years of age. Must have valid drivers license with no more than two moving violations in the last three years. The Parent Support Specialist will have a working understanding of the dynamics and needs of families with children or adolescents experiencing a Serious Emotional Disturbance (SED) or other disabilities. Preference will be given to parent and/or caregiver of an SED child. Experience in providing direct service is preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Employee is required to complete state required on-line certifications prior to billing of services. Must attend State approved live training within six months of hire. Will complete CPI, CPR and First Aid training and keep current on certifications.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is exposed to a typical office environment and interaction with many different persons. In addition, the employee travels by automobile and is exposed to changing weather conditions. Must have a valid Kansas Driver’s License and be insurable under the agency’s policy in order to operate a company vehicle. The employee will interact with many different persons in varying stages of recovery from their mental illness.
