Job Description:

Assists the University Radiation Safety Officer in administering the University-wide Radiation Safety Program by performing compliance audits, completing surveys, investigating incidents, training and educating personnel, responding to emergencies, performing inventories, disposing of waste, performing bioassays, calibrating radiation detectors, managing dosimeters, and assisting in radiation therapy. Assigned duties will be on all OU campuses and at several affiliated institutions.


Duties:



  • Assists the University Radiation Safety Officer in administering the University-wide Radiation Safety

  • Program by performing compliance audits, completing surveys, investigating incidents, training and educating personnel, responding to emergencies, performing inventories, disposing of waste, performing bioassays, calibrating radiation detectors, managing dosimeters, and assisting in radiation therapy.

  • Assigned duties will be on all OU campuses and at several affiliated institutions. Distribute and collect radiation dosimeters for OU and OU Health radiation workers.

  • Manage enrollment.

  • Distribute dosimetry reports. Track and investigate radiation doses greater than established thresholds.

  • Performs audits in research and clinical laboratories in which radioactive materials and radiation producing devices are used.

  • Calibrate G-M meters and ionization chambers.

  • Collect and process radioactive waste. Provide radiation-safety training. Respond to radiation emergencies. Perform radioactive materials inventories. Respond to regulatory inspections. Report findings.

Required Education: Bachelor's degree, AND:



  • 24 months of related work experience.


Equivalency/Substitution: Will accept 48 months experience in lieu of the Bachelor's degree for a total of 72 months of experience.


Skills:



  • Proficient navigating and maintaining databases

  • Read and understand complex written materials such as blueprints, metrics or technical manuals

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)

  • Highly organized and able to handle multiple projects and deadlines

  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing and build rapport with students, faculty and staff


Advertised Physical Requirements:




  • Physical: Ability to engage in repetitive motion. Must be capable of wearing personal protective equipment (PPE).


  • Environmental: Some standard office as well as regular exposure to all areas and buildings across campus.
