Knowesis, a dynamic and forward-thinking company, is currently seeking an exceptional Research Assistant II to join our team and provide invaluable support to the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, Center for Military Psychiatry and Neuroscience.

WRAIR's Military Psychiatry branch develops evidence-based knowledge products and interventions to optimize the readiness and resilience of Soldiers across the deployment cycle. In order to maintain an effective and lethal fighting force, Soldiers must be properly equipped to confront the psychological demands of military service and warfare. Psychiatric disorders amongst Soldiers are the leading cause of hospital bed days and the second leading cause of medical encounters, marking them as a significant threat to Soldier welfare and readiness.

Members of WRAIR's Military Psychiatry branch have surveyed deployed units around the world to document the prevalence of emerging and existing behavioral health concerns, and to identify related risk factors. These data are used to inform Commanders' decision-making about behavioral health and other resources, and Military Psychiatry's neurocognitive intervention development efforts and behavioral health policy recommendations.

To be eligible for this position, candidates must possess U.S. Citizenship without need for sponsorship, both now and in the future. Applicants without proof of U.S. Citizenship will not be considered due to the position’s security clearance requirements.

The Job Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:


  • Responsible for supporting WRAIR scientists with the execution of human subjects research related to psychology, brain health, and human performance.

    • Research projects would include qualitative and quantitative methods including surveys, interviews, experimentation, and intervention testing.

    • Data collection may be conducted in a variety of settings to include clinical settings, military garrison settings, and field settings.



  • Conducting literature reviews

  • Implementing research psychological/psychiatric research efforts to include: epidemiologic, survey, and protocols, collecting data, conducting data analyses utilizing SPSS (preferably) and other data management programs.

  • Co-authoring reports/papers/presentations of the research findings and assisting with creation of reports and presentations

  • Performs a variety of associate research functions in support of interventions research. Work involves conducting literature reviews, implementing research psychological/psychiatric research efforts, to include

  • Utilizes strong skills in protocol development, statistics and technical writing, and survey design/methodology.

  • Provides support in maintaining good practice standards.

  • Travels to assist with field data collections and to attend scientific meetings as needed.

Required Qualifications:


  • Minimum two years’ experience supporting human subjects research

  • Experience with qualitative and quantitative methods including surveys, interviews, experimentation, and intervention testing

  • Experience with statistical packages such as SPSS and NVivo

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Experience working with military or veteran populations

Education:


  • Bachelors of Arts (BA) or Science (BS) degree in either psychology, cognitive science, neuroscience, or related field; college coursework in research methods, statistics, or similar
