Job Details:
Responsibilities will require performing several chemistry work instructions and quality system procedures in a Food Safety Laboratory. Applicant must have the ability to learn/perform advanced level work instructions and operate advanced lab equipment; able to work independently and resolve complex problems; maintain and approve ISO records for process control and comply with quality system and safety requirements; perform audits of instruments, reagents, and standards as part of quality records; perform statistical analysis of lab data; ability to evaluate a situation quickly and react accordingly; ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing; proactive communication with peers, supervisors, and customers; demonstrated ability to complete continuous improvement projects aimed to improve the laboratory. Plan, develop, and lead method development/validations and evaluation of new or existing testing applications and test results. Ability to perform tasks that are necessary to laboratory function that are generally considered to be management level tasks such as coordinating daily workflows, reporting, communicating with customers, conducting special projects, etc. Ability to train other team members on applicable work instructions and instrumentation as assigned. Team member will be evaluated on the presence of a positive work attitude and leadership skills; collaboration skills; accuracy of work and timeliness.
Requirements and or Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in chemistry (or other related science discipline) plus 3 years of lab experience, or experience equivalent with over 5 years technical training in a laboratory-related position. Strong reading and comprehension skills are required for self-guided learning and application of scientific materials and other instructions.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years of lab related experience. Experience in multiple analytical disciplines including chromatography with ability to operate and maintain equipment as well as research, develop, and validate analytical methods utilizing mass spectrometry.
Difficulty of Duties: Work activities are variable and require good judgment to complete tasks such as setting priorities, evaluating results, and coordinating activities with others. Assignments are defined and the approach to be taken is usually determined in coordination with department management.
Computer Skills: Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office and expert LABWARE LIMS functions.
Training Programs: The training needs for this job classification have been assessed by the appropriate management team member and are listed in the LIMS Training Manager. Management of self and assigned tasks is required.
Physical: Must use safe lifting techniques. While performing the duties of this job the team member is regularly required to stand walk sit use hands to handle objects tools or controls; reach with hands and arms balance stoop; talk hear and visually inspect results. The team member must occasionally lift and or move up to 50 pounds. While handling samples latex/nitrile gloves must be worn. The team member may be exposed to standard laboratory chemicals.
