Job Description:

The University Honors Program is looking for an Assistant Director to coordinate Honors student services in support of retention and program completion; coordinate program communications strategy and communicate with students about Honors requirements, co-curricular experiences, and services; advise Honors student organizations; coordinate community engagement initiatives; and other duties as assigned.

The primary responsibilities of this position include overseeing a first-semester orientation course and peer mentoring program, direct student support through advising and outreach responsibilities, coordinating community engagement opportunities, and facilitating communications ranging from student newsletters to social media to individualized student communication about progress toward completion of Honors requirements. The Honors Program serves as an important recruitment and retention tool for high-achieving students, who often have many choices about where they will attend college.


Minimum Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree and three years' professional experience with college recruitment or student co-curricular programming.

  • Experience with communications for an organization including writing copy for print or electronic communications (such as emails, newsletters, fliers, website content); managing an organization's social media presence; and/or working with graphic or web designers.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse range of individuals.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as an integral part of a team.


Preferred Qualifications


  • Master's degree and experience with:

    • Honors education, as a student or professional

    • Communications directed to college-age students working with peer educators, such as mentors, coaches, or tutors

    • Teaching or facilitating 0/1 credit student development-type courses

    • Communications strategy for an organization

    • retention-related experiences



  • Knowledge of UNL information and communication systems such as Student Success Hub (Salesforce), Canvas, MyRed (Peoplesoft), degree audit systems, and Microsoft Office suite.
