Department Summary


The Department of Kinesiology, Health Promotion and Recreation (KHPR) is expanding its faculty to support a new STEM PhD degree in Human Performance and Movement Science, while it continues its long history of serving over 1,300 undergraduate and graduate students. Students and faculty in kinesiology focus in the areas of exercise physiology, physical activity behaviors, and sport/exercise psychology. Extensive and well-equipped research laboratories and other dedicated spaces support specializations in these three broad areas. A recent KHPR video highlights the capabilities of our laboratories and spaces for collaborative research.


UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. We welcome candidates who have experience with HSI/MSIs and/or who speak Spanish, Vietnamese, American Sign Language, Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin and other variations), Arabic, Tagalog, Farsi, French, or/and Yoruba.



Position Overview


Tenure-track and tenured faculty are expected to contribute to the academic excellence of the Department of KHPR by educating and mentoring students, developing and/or maintaining extramural funding, conducting high quality research as a principle or collaborating investigator, and providing service within the university and the profession. The position is open for a qualified candidate in exercise physiology, physical activity behaviors, or sport/exercise psychology.



Minimum Qualifications



  • Earned doctorate (PhD or equivalent) in Kinesiology, Human Performance, Movement Science, or a closely related field

  • Potential for obtaining extramural funding

  • Demonstrated ability for collaborative scholarship and research appropriate for the rank at time of appointment



Preferred Qualifications



  • Current or prior appointment in a postdoctoral, tenure-track, or tenured position

  • Current extramural funding that can be transferred to UNT

  • A record of high-quality collaborative scholarship

  • A national/international reputation in exercise physiology, physical activity behaviors, or sport/exercise psychology

  • Experience in higher education developing and delivering in-person, online, and hybrid courses

  • Experience in mentoring junior faculty and graduate students in the research process

  • Evidence of leadership in a Kinesiology, or closely related, graduate program

  • Pertinent experience in a non-academic setting (industry, government)
