Strategic Analysis, Inc. seeks a Principal Scientist/Engineer with expertise in Quantum Computer Science/Engineering to support a DoD client within the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering (OUSD(R&E)).

This is an on-site position at the Pentagon in Arlington, VA. Due to position classification, limited telework, i.e. no more than 1-2 days per month, is expected.

As a technical subject matter expert (SME) in Quantum Engineering, you will provide specialized knowledge and expertise in the field of quantum technologies, supporting system engineering and documentation processes, including the development of DoD-specific materials such as quad charts and metrics. This role requires extensive experience in aligning technical solutions with the needs of DoD platforms and working closely with various DoD Service elements. The ideal candidate is a highly skilled professional who can effectively bridge the gap between complex technical requirements and practical application within existing and future DoD Service programs.

Key Responsibilities:

• Technical Expertise: Provide subject matter expertise in quantum engineering, offering insights into emerging technologies and their potential applications within DoD platforms. Understand quantum sensors and quantum-based clocks supporting position, navigation, and timing (PNT) applications.
• System Engineering Support: Collaborate with technology developers and system engineering teams to integrate quantum technologies into existing and future systems, ensuring alignment with DoD standards and requirements.
• Documentation and Presentations: Develop and maintain DoD-specific documentation, including quad charts, technical reports, and presentations that clearly articulate complex quantum engineering concepts and project progress.
• Metric Development and Tracking: Establish, track, and report on key performance metrics related to quantum engineering initiatives, ensuring that projects meet defined objectives and milestones.
• DoD Service Collaboration: Work closely with various DoD Service elements to understand their technical needs, provide recommendations, and develop solutions that are tailored to their specific platform requirements.
• Requirements Analysis: Analyze technical requirements and identify opportunities where quantum technologies can enhance DoD capabilities, providing guidance on implementation strategies.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Work within the Quantum Science team and management to report on technical progress and maintain awareness of program progress. Serve as a liaison between Quantum Science team and DoD stakeholders, facilitating effective communication and ensuring that technical developments align with strategic objectives.
• Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Identify potential risks associated with the integration of quantum technologies and develop mitigation strategies to address technical and operational challenges.
• Research and Innovation: Stay abreast of the latest advancements in quantum engineering and related fields, contributing to ongoing research efforts and identifying innovative solutions for DoD applications.

Requirements:

Clearance: TS/SCI

Education: A master’s degree or PhD in Quantum Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or System Engineering is required.

Experience:
• Fifteen (15) years' recent and relevant experience, including strategic technical oversight of projects.
• Experience in quantum sensing with a strong understanding of system engineering principles and DoD-specific documentation requirements.
• Proven track record of working with DoD Service elements and integrating technical solutions with defense platforms.
• Proficiency in developing and presenting technical documentation, including quad charts, technical reports, and performance metrics.
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to translate complex technical information into clear, actionable recommendations.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders and Quantum Science management.
• Self-motivated with a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Familiarity with DoD acquisition processes and relevant regulations is highly desirable.
