The Safety Engineer will report directly to PSM’s Global EHS Manager and support the PSM mission by developing, implementing and sustaining safety programs in a wide variety of disciplines including Machine Safety, Radiation, Environmental, Hazardous Materials, Ergonomics, Fall protection, Lock Out/Tag Out, Confined Space Entry, and other industrial processes. With some autonomy, they will evaluate the workshop, products, and systems to ensure safety of PSM personnel. They identify concerns and recommend changes to address potential risks. In addition to focusing on prevention, the Safety Engineer will investigate EHS events to determine the root cause, and impart sustainable long-term corrective actions.
This role requires full-time onsite support and may occasionally require shiftwork and some travel between PSM sites in Florida. Occasional field site work and travel CONUS and OCONUS may be required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The essential functions of the job include, but are not limited to, the following:
With support, develops, implements, and maintains the EHS Management System, policies, and programs in accordance with the requirements of OSHA, NFPA, EPA, ISO 45001 and other regulatory agencies, standards, codes. Works closely with all business partners and external stakeholders to support and ensure full implementation of and compliance with requirements.
Ensures and assists operations with the proper identification and control of hazards and risks. Ensures implementation of PSM EHS policies, procedures, and safe work plans.
Maintains and ensures the implementation of the EHS Management System.
Prepares and ensures the accuracy and timeliness of EHS reports to EHS Manager (e.g. OSHA 300A, TRIR, LTA, DART, Quarterly Reviews, etc.)
Reviews requests for new chemicals and maintain the database of approved chemicals and SDSs.
Ensures the proper maintenance and implementation of the IH sampling plan.
Maintains medical surveillance program in cooperation with HR.
Ensure continuity of the EHS Management of Change process by reviewing and providing EHS guidance for facility, equipment, and process changes.
Works closely with business partners to ensure proper reporting, investigation, and documentation of all PSM EHS events and monitors implementation of corrective actions.
Maintains and ensures full implementation of PSM risk management program.
Manages EHS training program for employees, temporary employees, and contractors: Supports the defining of training requirements, ensures compliance and maintains training database. Plans and conducts EHS related training or arranges 3rd party training in cooperation with the relevant departments as applicable.
Maintains the emergency preparedness program and ensures regular training for all potential situations.
Provides input for project specific EHS plans. Analyzes customer specifications regarding EHS requirements, maintains customer qualification platforms and supports with EHS related customer requests.
Works with Supply Chain and all relevant departments to ensure proper EHS qualification of contractors and their compliance with EHS requirements. Performs periodic audits to ensure compliance.
Participates as a primary contact for PSM North in EHS regulatory inspections and reports inspection results to management.
Support internal and external audits and ensure the timely closure of action items related to this activity.
Ensures completeness and correctness of EHS records.
Ensures effective EHS communication on all levels; leads the EHS committee and promotes a highly developed EHS culture across the organization.
Maintains an EHS recognition program.
Reports to Management and to the entire organization on the performance of the EHS management system, including EHS performance.
Provides expertise, coaching, advice, and execution support to PSM in all EHS related areas.
Performs other tasks as directed by management.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education & Training
Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health, or related field. Equivalent relevant work experience will be considered.
OSHA 30hr General Industry
Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Occupational Health & Safety Technician (OHST), or similar safety-related certifications preferred.
OSHA 500 or 501 certification or OSHA Outreach Trainer preferred
Must complete EHS assigned regulatory training for work area as described by PSM’s EHS Training Matrix
Skills/Experience
Minimum requirements include, but not limited to, working from elevated platforms and ladders as they relate to safety activities, investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
Excellent knowledge of and a minimum of five (5) years of experience in managing occupational risk in industrial manufacturing or similar fields.
Experience in a manufacturing environment with responsibility for all EHS aspects
Experience in a field service/construction environment with responsibility for all EHS aspects
Proven knowledge of and ability to interpret and correctly apply current federal and state regulations, standards, and codes.
Proven knowledge of the ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards
Proven knowledge of industrial hygiene procedures and management
Experience presenting EHS topics to peers, higher management, and customers.
Excellent interpersonal and communication and influencing skills with a strong commitment to customer service.
Act independently, demonstrating initiative, ownership and accountability
Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office – Outlook, Word, Excel, Visio, and Power Point.
Able and willing to travel up to 20% domestically and internationally.
