McKesson's Strategic, Community and Specialized Pharmacy (SCS) is a segment within our U.S. Pharmaceutical business unit which cultivates relationships across a diverse customer set of pharmacies. Our team is driven by the core belief that pharmacies are the front door to healthcare for patients, and they will evolve and thrive with our support. This segment represents more than 22,000 pharmacy locations across the U.S. ranging from large retail chains, independent community pharmacies, alternate site pharmacies and emerging pharmacy channels.
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Sr. Director of Strategic Planning to join our Strategy, Marketing, and Operations team. This position will report directly to the Vice President of Strategic Planning and Management and is responsible for supporting the development of McKesson's long-range plans, translating long-range plans to actionable fiscal year priorities, and formulating near-term strategies for McKesson's Strategic, Community, and Specialized Care segment. The ideal candidate will possess a strong strategic mindset, data/analytical capabilities, and exceptional communication skills to develop upstream strategies (market research, opportunity assessment, business case development) as business needs arise. They must have the ability to work collaboratively across groups and gain credibility to create and support complex, cross-functional initiatives to achieve SCS segment objectives and growth goals.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy Development
Support the development of long range (3-5+ year) SCS strategy. Work in partnership with segment leaders and our Corporate Strategy team to develop strategy for priority initiatives, applying business-specific considerations in creating executable plans.
Drive structured and consistent processes to support segment leaders' decision-making, prioritization, sequencing of investments and resource deployment for strategic initiatives.
Identify and evaluate opportunities to advance the strategy through strategic partnerships. Develops strategic rationale and case for pursuing opportunities. Drives the execution of partnerships and alliances through relationship development and collaboration with cross-functional teams.
Strategic Plan Development and Execution
Translate long-range plans and vision to near-term (12-24 month) priorities and strategic and operational plans.
Partners closely with stakeholders to align strategies across business unit segments and support annual business planning activities, including annual priority setting.
Helps translate segment strategy into an actionable execution plan. Works with PMO to guide strategic initiative execution in partnership with operators. Ensures consistency with strategy and resolves emerging questions to improve value capture and speed.
Responsible for ensuring that both short- and long-term plans/goal are met within the established timelines.
Strategic Insights and Analytics
Stays updated on industry news, market research reports, and partner / competitor activities.
Develops robust, actionable insights to inform strategies, priorities, and key decisions.
Areas of focus include but are not limited to implications of market trends, competitive dynamics, and emerging risks and opportunities.
Primary Research
Manage primary (Voice of Customer) research projects from start to finish, including designing research approach, collecting, and analyzing data, and presenting findings and recommendations.
Provide regular reports to senior management and key stakeholders on findings and leverage insights to inform strategy development.
Minimum Requirement
Degree or equivalent and typically requires 10+ years of relevant experience. Less years required if has relevant Master's or Doctorate qualifications.
Education
4-year bachelor's degree in business or finance, or related field or equivalent experience
MBA preferred
Critical Skills
10+ years of strategy or consulting experience, or relevant healthcare industry experience
Demonstrated ability to develop strategy: Strong strategic thinking capability to evaluate industry trends, develop short- and long-term implications, and recommend actionable strategies for new business opportunities.
Analytical rigor: Ability to bring structure to undefined problems. Synthesize insights from analysis and create credible, actionable recommendations.
Executive level presence and presentation skills: Ability to communicate effectively and develop credibility across different levels and functions.
Lead without authority: Strong ability to influence and lead cross-functional teams to achieve shared goals within stated timelines.
Healthcare Knowledge: knowledge of stakeholders, trends, economic drivers, and policy across healthcare
Excellent computer skills, especially with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Other Requirements:
Must have the ability to travel up to 20% of the time
