MAIN FUNCTION:
The Plant Operations System (HVAC) Technician is responsible for performing various duties required in the installation, maintenance, and servicing of the hospital's air conditioning, refrigeration, heating, and ventilation systems, including the electrical and pneumatic controls associated with this equipment.
This position reports to the Lead Plant Operations (HVAC) Technician and operates within established organizational and departmental policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Install, maintain, and repair low- and high-pressure piping systems. These systems may supply or carry a variety of services such as steam, gas, air, medical gasses, water, etc., and be connected to such items as pneumatic control equipment, compressors, presses, cooling towers, sterilizers, vacuum pumps, heating units, air conditioning, and ventilation units, etc.
Install and maintain such items as traps, valves, thermostats, electrical and pneumatic controls, pumps, etc. working with construction drawing or blueprints.
Inspect systems to prevent or locate malfunctions periodically. Diagnose and remedy equipment problems to avoid shutdowns.
Remain flexible to work alternate shifts as necessary.
After appropriate training, respond in the event of a Code Orange.
Maintain established hospital and departmental policies and procedures, objectives, confidentiality, quality improvement program, compliance, safety, infection control and environmental standards.
Maintain professional growth and development through attendance at seminars, workshops, conferences or in-services, professional affiliations, or journals to stay abreast of current trends in field of expertise.
Meet annual competency and retraining requirements.
Attend meetings as required.
Perform other functions/duties as requested.
Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
High school or vocational school graduate or equivalent courses in HVAC, computer-controlled systems, asbestos maintenance training, and mechanical equipment required.
Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certification (MOAB or equivalent) required.
EPA Refrigeration and Recovery certification required.
Massachusetts Refrigeration License preferred.
