JOB SUMMARY

This role is the part owner of multiple hot section parts. The part owner is responsible for the characterization and design development of aerospace turbine engine components to meet the fit, form, function, and any additional design criteria. The responsibilities begin with creating and executing the characterization plan to completely define the part and documenting the manufacturing process requirements. The part owner is responsible for all the technical decisions including the drawings, related specifications, part development, collaboration with outside vendors, and support to procurement and sales departments. The candidate must demonstrate a team-focused and proactive approach to problem solving.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential functions of the job include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Reverse engineer aerospace turbine engine components and systems to meet fit, form, function and additional design criteria.
  • Define and lead the characterization of all aspects of reverse engineering including dimensional, materials, mechanical properties, structural analysis, modal analysis, and manufacturing processes.
  • Support the continued development and oversee the adherence to PSM design systems including folder structure, documentation, technical reviews, drawings, engineering changes, field validation plans, and verification.
  • Collaborate with the structures engineer to ensure parts maintain appropriate stress levels, meet life requirements, and design criteria.
  • Utilize appropriate design tools, such as Creo, GOM, Microsoft project, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Evaluate supplier quotes and capabilities to ensure suppliers can meet quality and schedule requirements.
  • Mentor less experienced engineers and collaborate with other engineers in the appropriate use of design practices, analytical methods, use of design/analysis tools, materials selection, and manufacturing/processing options.
  • Assess needs and identify critical path schedules for design, manufacturing and procurement activities.
  • Support new part development including disposition of nonconforming hardware.
  • Create and deliver presentations to internal and external customers.
  • Write part design reports, tests reports, specifications, etc.
  • Collaborate with lab personnel to gather appropriate data for part characterization.
  • 15% travel to suppliers and vendors is required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education & Training

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or aeronautical engineering.
  • Master’s Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Aeronautical Engineering preferred.

Skills/Experience

  • 15+ years of experience in Aerospace hot gas path turbine component design and manufacturing.
  • 5+ years of experience reverse engineering aerospace hot gas path turbine parts including but not limited to airfoils.
  • Experience modeling turbine hardware.
  • 10+ years of engineering experience with Aerospace or Industrial Gas Turbine hot gas path parts including but not limited to airfoils.
  • Proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Project.
  • Basic NX, CREO, or similar software modeling skills.
  • Effective communication and decision-making skills.
  • Experience presenting technical information to internal customers.
  • Experience with GD&T.
  • Strong analytical decision-making and organizational skills.
  • Working knowledge of various manufacturing processes, including investment casting, general machining, and fabrication.
  • Experience with FEA software preferred (ANSYS/Abaqus).
  • Experience delivering technical information to upper management, and customers.
  • Effective communication, organization, and decision-making skills.
  • Work multiple assignments effectively.
