Position Summary
Develops, coordinates and implements government relations strategies in specified states or territories to enhance ERIE's relations with government and regulatory authorities. Builds and develops relationships with officials and their representative staff at the state level.
The successful candidate will work from an ERIE Branch if accessible or fully remote within our Footprint.
The successful candidate will be required to travel frequently to our Atlantic region.
The Hiring Manager will also consider candidates for Sr. Field Government Relations Specialist. Level of position offered will be based upon the depth and breadth of selected candidate's experience and qualifications.
Duties and Responsibilities
Researches and monitors proposed legislation or administrative rules that have potential to impact the insurance industry. Seeks input from appropriate parties and analyzes impacts of proposed regulations. Presents findings via memoranda, articles and positions papers, in a timely manner.
Develops and implements legislative action strategies and represents ERIE's public policy positions and policies to state and federal government bodies. Develops working relationships with legislators, key staff members and other industry government relations representatives. Develops and implements programs to build and develop working relationships with key contacts.
Coordinates ERIE Political Action Committees (PAC) and ERIE-PAC-FED to maximize political support and strategic impact. Assists in updating bi-partisan PAC budget and disbursement plan for PAC Management Committee review and input. Coordinates communications and follow-up with ERIE Agents and vendors for PA Insurance PAC solicitations.
Represents ERIE at meetings, hearings, and functions that pertain to programs that may impact the products and services ERIE provides. Analyzes and shares findings.
Supports the Customer Service and Actuarial Divisions in rate and product filings with state insurance departments.
Participates in the development of public policy positions, coordinating relationships with the state legislators and working to maximize relationships with key legislators. Exchanges information about ERIE, as well as company interests and concerns.
Develops integrated and consistent government relations strategies directed at Employees, Agents, policyholders, elected officials and external audiences. Serves as the contact person for media outlet for legislative and regulatory issues.
Drafts and delivers testimony and other written comments in support of insurance industry positions on pending legislation and regulations.
Assists department manager in managing retained lobbyists.
Completes special projects as required.

Qualifications
Minimum Educational Requirements
Bachelors' degree in public policy, public relations, communications or related field, required. Master's Degree preferred.
Additional Experience
Six years experience in government relations, public relations, marketing or communications required.
In lieu of government relations experience, eight years of insurance industry experience and completion of General Insurance Program and IIA or CPCU courses required.
Working knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software required.
Frequent travel, including overnight stays, required.

Valid driver's license and a good driving record required.
