Value Stream Manager - 2nd Shift at Columbia Forest Group

Job Description:



  • This position with report to day shift value stream manager.

  • Maintaining a clear understanding of all major process performance issues in their value stream on assigned shifts.

  • • Leadership in the value-stream level operation of the Columbia Way Daily Management System (DMS) that is designed to communicate and coordinate production activities within and between teams.

  • • Shift handoffs for communication of issues.

  • • Prioritizing of activities to resolve operational problems based on impact.

  • • Personal leadership of structured problem solving efforts for select issues and problems. (often system level impacts)

  • • Holding team leaders and special problem solving teams accountable for problem solving efforts assigned to them.

  • • Ensuring that all action items are completed on a timely basis.

  • • Development, coaching and assuring the effectiveness of each team leader under their value stream.

  • • Coaches out of standard items. Head on a swivel to identify opportunities.

  • • Responds to and-on pulls.

  • • Must meet or beat internal target reject rates.

  • • Rapid resolution of priority quality issues (via action items).

  • • Variable cost at or below budget per MSF.

  • • Must meet or exceed production targets.

  • • Establishing a strong positive trend of improving value stream run ratios.

  • • Helps maintains inventory accuracy.

  • • Make sure all team members in the area are trained. (training Time Tables)

  • • Updates Standard work and 5S documents.

Safety Concerns


• Supports safety projects and initiatives


• Demonstrate a commitment to safety through support of BST, or any other company supported program.


• Reach cards filled out for upset conditions.


• Understand and effectively coach/train safety standards.


• Exposed to a lot of moving gears, belts, drives, etc. Hands or other body parts cannot be placed near moving equipment unless the machine is shut off, the power shut off at the power disconnect, the power disconnect tagged, locked out, and padlocked by each person involved.


• Must wear hearing protection and eye protection and area appropriate gloves.


• Share safety information at every opportunity.


• Make sure that all LOTO is followed under their value stream.


Quality Concerns


Continuously improves to help get the plant target reject percentages. Understands quality targets for Value stream. Constantly striving to lower rejects. Understands what the different rejects and the causes of these in the value stream. Provides feedback to previous processes through quality gates and and-on pulls. Understands customer claims and how their value stream affects this or can help prevent this.


Qualifications:


Education and Experience:


• High School Diploma or GED. 2 yr. associates degree or higher preferred.


• Computer proficiency. (Links, email, excel, word, etc.)


• Effective communication through all levels.


• Consistently demonstrates respect and courtesy toward all workers.


• Positive and professional demeanor with a can-do attitude.


• Strong teaching, coaching, and mentoring skills.


• Leadership skills, specifically an ability to develop and motivate team leaders to make them effective in the daily management of their operations and proactive problem solvers that constantly improve control and performance of those operations.


• Observational skills and diagnostic abilities.


• Strong problem solving skills. (C-4, A-3, etc.)


• In depth understanding of lean tools. (5S, Standard Work, Kanban systems, DMS, etc.)


• Strong project management skills.


• Team player eager to collaborate with others.


• A strong focus on proactive problem prevention and solving.


• An ability to discern opportunities for continuous improvement and complete the PDCA cycle.


• This job requires the ability to plan and perform unusual, difficult work, and make decisions involving the use of considerable ingenuity.


• Must be self-motivated.
