ABOUT THE ROLE
Sitting within the North America Consumer Brands Business Unit, the key outcomes for this role will be: Execute winning earned media strategies that ladder up to brand business goals and objectives, while driving influence, impact and brand advocacy among select key audiences.
Help brand marketing teams create, adapt and adopt our brand stories to build our brands (in an agile and efficient manner); unlocking and driving timely & cultural relevance on social media and PR capabilities that is efficient, effective, drives speed to market and provides an efficient governance model to ensure we build and protect our brands and the corporate SCJ brand legacy.
Manager - Brand PR and Social Listening role is focused on raising the capability level of our agencies and marketers by holding teams accountable to continue to build iconic brands and grow market share. This role directly reports into the Director of Agency Management and Integration as well as dotted line to the Director of Brand PR and Reputation.
Overarching:
Responsible for execution of brand building, governance and sales driving brand marketing and public relations programs across North America business unit
Works together with cross functional team members within North America business unit to promote and protect the reputation of SC Johnson brands in North America through impactful storytelling, heightening brand affinity among key stakeholders, implementing risk mitigation protocols, and provides direction and execution of brand public relations activities
Provide ongoing expertise & strategic thought leadership in social, PR and heightened storytelling focusing on raising the agile IQ of marketing teams
PR:
The North America role will work directly with business unit marketing team members to provide brand public relations counsel, review proactive and reactive social media plans and governance counsel and direction in accordance with SC Johnson policies to enhance and proactively protect the company's image, brand health and reputation
Contributes to the qualitative measurement and evaluation of Brand PR programs for the North America business unit
Social Media:
Ensure Social efforts are a seamless part of the overall brand experience and commercial programs
Develop a strategic social process that identifies and enables best-in-class engagement, insight, and risk mitigation
Partner with agencies and cross-functionals to deliver best-in-class social tools to enable brand building
Coach and oversee brand social content & strategy, identifying what drives the business forward in a variety of situations, from editorial planning of expected events to identifying relevant triggers to help identify where / how to play in unexpected scenarios, all in tandem with creative agencies
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Heighten brand affinity and drive earned media coverage and social reach for SCJ brands in North America, liaising with public relations, creative and media agencies to drive results
Protect and promote the SCJ Johnson consumer brands through understanding and application of corporate governance policies and best in class practices in all public communications
Within the framework of corporate brand governance policies and practices, work with brand marketing teams to develop strategies for, and execution of, brand public relations and enhance social media strategies to drive engagement and brand affinity among priority audiences
Manage and/or coordinate brand public relations activities at the direction of the Director of Corporate Brand and Communications to ensure steady cadence of positive news throughout the season
Develop trusted relationships with business unit colleagues at multiple levels within the organization
Work effectively with agency partners on development and execution of brand PR and social activities
Support development and execution of corporate brand activations, as needed
Work cooperatively with members of GCAC team on communications, community relations and government relations activities
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE YOU'LL BRING
Bachelor's degree in public relations, communications, marketing, or related field with 7+ years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with 5+ years of relevant experience
Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States
PREFERRED EXPERIENCES AND SKILLS
Demonstrates the ability to be a "dot" connector, integrator, and collaborator, and works well in a project/team environment
Strong writer with consumer brand, social media experience
Experience in consumer products goods public relations, both strategy and execution. Agency experience a plus
Excellent business, news and feature writing skills across
Ability to find, build and tell brand-based stories
Self-starter, proactive, able to work both independently and in team settings
Ability to work closely with colleagues in different disciplines, including marketing and legal
Experience working on programs and campaigns
Excellent communication skills - verbal and written
Possesses a strong Digital IQ / Digital Experience (Digital at the core but has a solid understanding of all touch points and how they connect). Meaning, the ideal candidate:
Understands the fragmented and quickly evolving global social landscape/role, including technology/device implications on the consumer, and adjusts/adapts based promptly on this
Understands how to drive social/agile marketing within an organization that does not create silos but is seamlessly connected to all efforts
Understands Paid/Owned/Earned/Shared dynamics, the relationships and fluidity between them, and how to plan, integrate and successfully implement
An understanding of equity marketing activities
Experience with an agency IAT operating model
Demonstrated success in participating on cross-functional teams and influencing outcomes
High sense of urgency
Passion for making a difference and helping the broader team win
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Ability to travel up to 25% of the time
Full-time onsite role in Racine or Chicago office; core hours 9 - 3
This role is eligible for domestic relocation
Remote work is available once per week for eligible employees
