Job Description:

Heat treating metals is our specialty so having an experienced and knowledgeable Metallurgist is vital to ensure customer compliance and satisfaction! Due to expansion and a growing customer base, Solar Atmospheres of Chesterfield, MI is seeking a Plant Metallurgist to join their team!

This role will work Monday-Friday 7am - 3:30pm, but additional hours may be needed to ensure all work is completed.

What you'll do
As a Metallurgist, you'll act as a subject matter expert for the company, advising on processes, quality concerns, customer specification questions, and more. Working alongside and leading a team of 2 Lab Tech's, you'll:

Audit conformance utilizing heat-treating and metallurgical quality and industry standards
Assist quality, sales, and production departments, acting as a subject matter expert on customer specifications
Coordinate all activities related to metallurgical, chemical, or physical testing
Promote the best interest of the company through quality and efficiency standards
Review and aid in inspections of materials returned and customer complaints
Research, evaluate, and perform corrective/preventive actions when deficiencies are noted
Conduct and manage all research and development programs
Strictly adhere to all company safety and quality standards
Foster positive and professional working relationships with co-workers, vendors, suppliers, and customers
Lead, motivate, and develop a team of metallurgical laboratory personnel


What you need to thrive in this role

3+ years experience in heat treating environment or 5+ years experience in a metallurgical laboratory setting
Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering or Material Sciences, master's preferred
Working knowledge of heat treatment, failure analysis, and process improvement
Prior experience working in a technical environment or with quality management systems (AS9100, ISO 9001, NADCAP).
Intermediate skills in MO365 and manufacturing software
Reliable and organized with an attention to detail
Ability to multitask and prioritize
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, bend, reach, and sit or stand for extended periods
