Job Summary


The Learning Disability Post Bac assists Occidental College's Disability Services Office in providing individualized support to students with learning concerns and academic difficulties. 




Job Duties



  • 45% - Conduct assessments to identify learning disabilities and academic challenges. Develop personalized academic plans to address specific student needs. Provide one-on-one coaching and support sessions. Monitor student progress and adjust support strategies as necessary. Maintain detailed records of student interactions and progress. - (Essential)

  • 25% - Facilitate workshops and training sessions on learning strategies and resources. - (Essential)

  • 15% - Assist students in obtaining and utilizing campus resources (Emmons Wellness Center, Disability Services, Dean of Students Office, etc.) - (Essential)

  • 15% - Attend bi-weekly 1:1 meetings with supervisor and monthly team meetings. - (Essential)




Minimum Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree in liberal arts or other related fields to the position responsibilities. Enrollment in a Special Education or related graduate program.

  • Cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

  • Teaching or tutoring experience in a one-on-one or group setting.

  • Working knowledge of the symptoms and needs of students with various learning and/or psychological disabilities.

  • Working knowledge of Section 504 and ADA policies. Ability to analyze, synthesize and organize data, and present findings in a comprehensible manner for different audiences.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google drives/folders/forms, Adobe Acrobat, Web Editing, and social media applications or any combination of productivity programs applicable to position responsibilities.

  • Demonstrated ability to be detail-oriented and thorough; skilled at anticipating and preventing potential problems and handling a wide variety of tasks with efficiency and accuracy.

  • Strong commitment to a quality work product.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate verbally, in writing and electronically.

  • Effective interpersonal skills as evidenced in the ability to collaborate with a variety of constituencies.

  • Demonstrated commitment to justice, equity, inclusion & diversity.

  • Demonstrated skill in adapting to and performing work effectively in high-volume, high accountability, confidential environment with multiple and changing priorities.

  • Effective organizational, logistical, time management and planning skills with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks/projects simultaneously, prioritize and fulfill the functions of an office in a timely manner.

  • Ability to self-motivate and work independently.

  • Ability to provide effective leadership and training, and to work effectively and professionally across functions, disciplines, levels, and with diverse groups.




Preferred Qualifications


Bachelor's degree in special education, psychology, counseling or related fields.
Some experience working with individuals experiencing learning disabilities.



EXPECTED HIRING RANGE: $20.00/hr - $22.00/hr
