As a result, the majority of our staff are hybrid and work both from home and onsite. Our current hybrid approach requires staff to work onsite a minimum of two days each week, every Tuesday and one other day, to be determined by their business unit. Hybrid staff are also welcome to come in additional days each week or may be asked to come in on other days by their manager.

DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

The World is a one-hour, nationally distributed weekday radio public affairs program co-produced by GBH and PRX. The show offers a mix of news, features, interviews, and music from around the globe. The World’s companion website, theworld.org, offers a similar mix of news and features along with slideshows, videos, podcasts, and interactive graphics that expand on the radio content. The World and theworld.org use social media and other relevant digital tools to maximize audience engagement and enhance the user experience.

 

JOB OVERVIEW

The Reporter will work on producing two to three stories each week, under the supervision of an editor. Assignments will range from quick turnaround pieces to long-term reports. Some travel will be involved, especially to countries and regions connected to reporter’s areas of expertise and language facility. The Reporter will be expected to report and voice their own radio pieces and produce content for the web and social media. 

 

What you get to do:


  • Pitch and develop story ideas in collaboration with their Editor and Supervising Producer.


  • Conduct interviews in the field, by phone, video conferencing platforms and in the field when necessary.


  • Report, write, and produce radio stories, using original reporting, archival audio, and other pre-recorded audio.


  • Collaborate with the digital team to develop web stories for their radio pieces, make videos and post content (stories/behind the scenes) to social media.


 

What skills you need:


  • Demonstrated expertise in radio reporting and production; strong writing and critical-thinking skills, including the ability to write engagingly and creatively on deadline;


  • Strong familiarity with global and domestic issues;


  • Some experience with online content creation and social media engagement


  • The ability to work both cooperatively in a busy newsroom as well as operate independently.


 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience. At least three years of experience in journalism required.
