The research and development (R&D) Engineer will design, develop and provide technical expertise in the R&D of peripheral embolization medical devices from conception to market release. Support engineering teams through planning, prototyping, literature review, performing testing and analysis, and troubleshooting. Partner with Quality, internal Manufacturing, Suppliers, Marketing, Regulatory Affairs, and other key functions to achieve business goals.

This position is in Plymouth, MN within the Peripheral Vascular Health (PVH) operating unit and requires on-site presence. The PVH operating unit offers a diverse portfolio of devices and therapies to restore the right blood flow to the right patient, including patients with Peripheral and Carotid Artery Disease, End-Stage Renal Disease, Superficial and Deep Venous Diseases, and a variety of conditions involving Peripheral Embolization treatment. The operating unit leads the way in the Superficial Venous, Deep Venous Stenting, and Drug-Coated Balloon markets, caring for nearly 1 million patients globally with lifesaving and life-enhancing therapies.

A Day in the Life

As a R&D Engineer II you will focus on delivering R&D to new therapies, from design to implementation while adhering to policies using specialized knowledge and skills. The role requires effective management and prioritization of multiple concurrent tasks in an ambiguous environment. In general, the following responsibilities apply for the R&D Engineer II. This includes, but is not limited to the following:


  • Develop and coordinate small projects, as asked by the project team, with supervision from higher level engineering;

  • Assist in developing customer and product specifications;

  • Develop, troubleshoot, qualify, and/or validate fixtures, equipment, and test methods utilized to evaluate product design;

  • Assist in preparing engineering drawings with specifications and tolerances;

  • Create test plans/protocols, build prototypes, perform testing, and analyze and document results;

  • Process engineering change orders;

  • Assist in developing Failure Modes, Effects, and Criticality Analyses;

  • Present technical findings or task status to cross functional teams through meeting minutes, presentations, design reviews and other means of communication;

  • Perform job functions in accordance with applicable GMP and ISO standards;

  • Maintain required documentation per GDP procedures.

Qualifications

MUST HAVE - MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, or a technical discipline

  • Minimum of 2 years of work experience in Engineering, OR Advanced degree in Engineering, or technical discipline with 0 years of work experience

Nice to Have


  • Degree related to Materials Science & Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Bio-engineering, or Mechanical Engineering;

  • Experience in medical device industry with Class III product, preferably with endovascular therapies, products and technologies;

  • Experience with medical device material characterization and selection;

  • Working knowledge of rapid prototyping and product design;

  • Experience with equipment and fixture development and qualification, test method development and validation, and design verification and validation testing;

  • Ability to compile, organize, and communicate technical data using Excel, Word, Visio, and PowerPoint;

  • Experience using statistical techniques (e.g. DOE, Monte Carlo, ANOVA, Gage R&R, or Six Sigma tools and principles);

  • Experience using common engineering software (e.g. CAD, Statistical - Minitab or JMP, MATLAB, PLM - Agile, Enovia or Windchill);

  • Experience working with Design for Manufacturing and Assembly or Design for Reliability and Manufacturability (or equivalent).

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$80,000.00 - 120,000.00

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
