Responsibilities

What you'll be challenged to do:

TranSystems’ Ohio offices have an opportunity for a mid-level engineer to join our Roadway Team. This Engineer will be a member of our roadway team and will lead and assist in various tasks including plan preparation, quantity calculations, geometric design, drainage design, cost estimating and other related tasks. Microstation, Open Roads Designer, MS Office and other design software will be used, and all work will be in collaboration with other engineers, technicians, planners, and surveyors. This Engineer will also help mentor younger engineers and will be given the opportunity to develop into a project manager. Candidates with a background in preliminary engineering or development of detailed plans are preferred; must possess strong technical skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work well in a team environment on multi-disciplinary projects.  

Primary Responsibilities (others may be assigned): 


  • Analyzes information and data to perform detailed roadway calculations.

  • Makes decisions independently on engineering problems and methods, and occasionally represents the organization in meetings to resolve important questions, and to plan and coordinate work.

  • Responsible for accuracy of engineering design and plans, quality presentation, thoroughness and follow-through, and efficient conformance to budgets, schedules, and company standards.

  • Research design options and document findings for Senior Project Engineer.

  • Computation of plan quantities to support cost estimates.

  • Completion of final submittal documents for design and/or rehabilitation projects.

  • Preparation of plans using Microstation and other design software.

  • Review project design for general compliance with engineering principles, company standards, client contract requirements, and related specifications.

  • Maintains project database by writing computer programs; entering and backing up data.

  • Keeps Senior Project Manager informed of workload and any changes in project schedule or scope or additional services.

  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

  • Works well independently and in team environment.

  • Commitment to quality work and timely communication


Qualifications

What you bring to our firm:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited school.

  • 5-10 years of roadway design experience.

  • Experience in MicroStation, OpenRoads, and MS Office.

  • Ohio Professional Engineer License or ability to acquire within 6 months.

  • Communication skills; ability to be a team player; display of high energy; and problem solving skills.

  • Actively engages multiple perspectives when solving problems, seeks to learn from peers, and encourages reciprocal learning among team members.

What we’d prefer for you to bring to our firm:


  • Familiarity with ODOT procedures, policies, standards, and publications.

  • General knowledge of roadway and/or drainage design.

  • Experience in the entire design development process including preliminary engineering, final design and services during construction.
