Our Legal Division is expanding its records and information management (RIM) capabilities to support the ongoing efforts of Edward Jones to serve and provide financial solutions to millions of clients and their families. We are seeking a director of the firm's RIM program who can provide independent, strategic program leadership to expand the program beyond its already strong foundation to meet the needs of a knowledge powered organization fueled, in part, by increased use of data and enhanced utilization of artificial intelligence capabilities. This leader will guide the RIM program through an increasingly-complex legal and regulatory landscape and advise business partners on associated risks and must be energized by leading in a matrixed, dynamic environment with broad leadership responsibility, who can serve as a dynamic thought leader to partner with business leaders to play a critical part in ensuring our organization's compliance with recordkeeping regulations, industry standards, and best practices related to the management of the firm's information and data. This position will report directly to the firm's Chief Privacy Officer, who leads our organization's Legal-Information & Data Protection team, consisting of both privacy and records and information management professionals.

The RIM Program Director will be the day-to-day leader of the firm's enterprise Records and Information Management (RIM) program. This individual will be responsible for developing, implementing, and leading complex firmwide RIM initiatives, advising on RIM requirements, coordinating and overseeing hundreds of business area RIM Leaders and Liaisons, and serving as the key strategic and operational leader of the RIM program. This individual will also be primarily responsible for assessing and monitoring records and information risks to the firm and developing/coordinating mitigation strategies to ameliorate those risks.     

A successful candidate will seamlessly interface with the wider legal team and business partners to provide practical, strategic guidance and design and implement creative solutions to complex challenges. Candidates should be highly motivated and extremely knowledgeable about records management law and regulations and information governance.

Key Responsibilities will include:


  • Advising senior firm leadership on forward-looking, technology-based records management strategies in a highly-regulated financial services environment

  • Partnering with technology and digital counterparts at the firm to Provide records management subject matter expertise, counsel, and guidance to the firm's business areas and leaders

  • Maturing the records management program beyond a compliance function to a business enablement capability sufficient to support the firm's larger strategic ambitions

  • Developing, updating, and implementing records management and information governance policies and procedures

  • Monitoring external and internal opportunities, threats, risks, and regulatory requirements

  • Managing and controlling record footprint

  • Developing and managing records retention and purge processes

  • Facilitating the firm's Legal Hold process

  • Supporting RIM risk assessment processes

  • Overseeing Records Management Initiatives

  • Providing leadership, training, and guidance to the firm's RIM Leaders and RIM Liaisons


  • Bachelors degree required. Advanced degree or JD preferred.

  • Minimum 12 years progressive responsibility in a records management role for a large firm or affecting a large firm including 5+ years serving in a primary operational role within a records management program (including a preference for people leadership).

  • One or more Records Management or Information Governance certifications preferred.

  • Significant records management knowledge and experience required, including both thought leadership/strategic direction and daily management.

  • Significant understanding of, and aptitude for influencing business leadership on, record retention laws, industry standards, best practices, and regulatory requirements.

  • Experience serving as a primary strategic advisor for record management initiatives preferred.

  • Preference for a strong technical background with command of information technology and software utilized in the records management or information governance fields.

  • Capacity to represent legal perspectives in a large, cross-functional, collaborative environment

  • Strong cross-function collaboration skills and the ability to oversee a large number of ongoing projects.

  • Sound judgment, decision making, and conflict resolution skills.

  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, resourceful, and adaptable to changing priorities.

  • Excellent verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills, with demonstrated ability to influence decisions at senior executive levels of organizations.

  • Capacity to work independently, as needed, and collaboratively in a team environment.
