DMS SCADA Design Engineer team is responsible to develop and apply standards, manage firmware, perform version management, and advise on the use and engineering principles to support FirstEnergy's Distribution SCADA (a component of the DMS) environment. The team focuses on ensuring a world class SCADA system for use by Distribution Operations. This position is focused on the field device SCADA configurations, SCADA point-to-point verification, and interface maintenance to the Oracle components of the DMS system.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Providing support for Distribution Management System
Designing for the installation and modification of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) field equipment, with an emphasis on configuration of Remote Terminal Units (RTUs) to communicate to real-time systems that monitor and control field assets
Issuing SCADA design packages
Providing second-level field support for commissioning activities
Managing schedules and coordinate changes following established department procedures
Providing engineering technical expertise to ensure the operational reliability of SCADA systems
Managing SCADA asset lifecycles, including establishing and coordinating maintenance programs for RTUs and associated equipment
Reviewing and approving completed work packages by technical analysts to ensure adherence to engineering principles and practices
Assisting with testing upgrades to the software
Creating and execute comprehensive unit test plans, developing test cases, assisting with integration and performing system test plans.
Supporting dispatchers and engineers in the use of the system
Working directly with experienced staff members to identify, evaluate, prioritize, and implement improvements consistent with business requirements.
Assisting in the creation of system documentation, version release notes, and training material. Conducting presentations and training.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
Bachelor's of Science degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from an ABET accredited institution is required. Acceptable alternatives are: (1) a Professional Engineer's (PE) License (2) a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or technical field of study (non-ABET) plus an advanced degree in Electrical Engineering from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor's program.
Experience managing high availability of complex data sets, RTU configurations, SCADA communications and/or protocols
Demonstrated ability to review instrument and control drawings related to SCADA and connected intelligent electronic devices.
Ability to effectively use standard PC software, including MS Windows and Office products, web-based systems, e-mail, relational database query tools.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, and strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with people at all levels and with varying backgrounds.
Experience in providing responsive and effective customer service.
Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize and plan work, work on multiple concurrent tasks, and meet deadlines.
Preferred:
Data communications and networking knowledge
Concentration in Power Systems Engineering or Communications Engineering (if Engineering related degree)
Demonstrated analytical skills to effectively resolve technical problems.
Familiarity with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and RTU Programming
Experience with SEL and/or Cooper configuration tools
Experience with DNP3.0 SCADA protocol
Experience with RS232, RS485, and Ethernet (IP)
