The Police Dispatcher serves as the initial point of contact for those seeking police and emergency services for the University of Miami Coral Gables campus. The Police Dispatcher dispatches routine and emergency law enforcement services; coordinates emergency medical and fire services with local agencies; answers public inquiries about university events, operations and locations; activates emergency messaging; monitors alarm systems and dispatches responders when necessary; monitors camera systems and video systems to identify suspicious activity and directs responders to investigate; and provides other general support to the law enforcement mission of the University of Miami Police Department. The Police Dispatcher performs work at demanding levels that includes multiple tasks under emergency conditions where speed and accuracy are significant factors in achieving the Department's mission. The Police Dispatcher position is designated as essential personnel and will continue to work during periods where the University may suspend normal operations due to events such as severe weather, natural disasters, special events and/or hazardous situations. The Police Dispatcher plays a vital role in maintaining a safe and secure campus environment. The position has significant responsibility for life and safety on the Coral Gables campus.

Physical Requirements
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other
employees and the public through the use of first responder's radio systems, telephone and
personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, sit, stand, hear, hands to
fingers dexterity, handle, feel or operate objects, read and write fluently in English. Must have
clear voice diction. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office
equipment, such as but not limited to specialized telecommunications equipment, teletype,
NAWAS Warning System, Security/Alarm System, FCIC/NCIC/NLETS Systems, and TDD deaf
services equipment, CAD System, personal computer, calculator, copier and fax machine.
Considerable amount of time spent sitting at a work station, and taking calls and using a radio.
Work is predominately performed indoors within a usually quiet to moderately noisy and fastpaced
environment. Must be able to work different shifts as required. May occasionally be required to lift, carry and/or push items weighing up to 20 lbs.
