Overview
Under direct supervision, primarily performs basic research or lab activities similar to a Research Assistant.
Responsibilities
Enrolled in or on vacation from or is otherwise registered in a graduate program with a minimum of 4/5 credit hours
Strong English language skills (writing and speaking) are required
Minimal wet laboratory experience (at least 6 months) in related field (Organic Chemistry, Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field)
Must have experience/skills sufficient to conduct characterization of resulting compounds and materials using several spectroscopic techniques (IR,NMR and UV-Vis)
Attention to detail and good record-keeping are essential
Experience in one or more of the following areas:
Organic synthesis, preferably in polymer chemistry
Polymerization of crosslinked networks
Spectroscopy (IR, NMR, UV-VIS, Mass spec)
Mechanical testing (three-point bending, DMA, rheology) on the job training is offered
Manuscript and grant writing (under supervision)
These tasks are expected to be carried out under general supervision
Clear instructions and expectations are set for the deliverables (good record keeping included)
This individual does not have autonomy to make decisions on the progress of the project, but contribution of ideas is highly encouraged
