Job Description:

The Vice President, Global Operations will be responsible for managing and driving results for all areas of operations which includes quality, procurement, SIOP, APM Engineering, facilities as well as the safe and effective manufacturing of our products. This role is responsible for applying best practices to develop the operations, quality, and procurement functions globally. The Vice President will establish strategies, set goals, monitor work, and evaluate results to ensure department objectives and operation requirements are met.


  • This person will have a hands-on approach while remaining strategic and ensuring that a proper organizational structure is in place that utilizes lean manufacturing processes to direct plant operations, consistent with sales forecasts, production schedules and planned growth. The key to success in this position is consistently meeting production and sales (revenue and profit) goals.
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of manufacturing strategy and readiness to support business objectives. Establish metrics, measurements, tools to improve efficiency and communication; ensuring the requirements of the customer are met, optimizing product value, reducing cost and ensuring on time delivery.
  • Identify and execute on opportunities to relocate production to low cost regions
  • Plans, organizes, and directs activities related to the procurement and materials management functions. Supervises preparation of production forecasts and schedules with input from sales and product management on order volume/forecast.
  • Provide leadership, direction and mentoring to direct reports. Model expected behaviors to the organization.
  • Monitor safety, quality, delivery, cost, and morale performance and establish systems to effectively do so.
  • Develop strategic and operating plans to improve competitiveness.
  • Develop long-term strategies and plans for capital equipment identification, procurement, and implementation.
  • Collaborate with human resources and legal counsel to comply with State and Federal employment practices.
  • Objectives include reducing lead time (defined as shop floor process time pick to ship) of Ci instruments to under 5 working days and UVTest to under 4 days; increasing inventory turns to > 5 times a year; delivery of instruments and parts/ supplies committed within 24 hours and on-time over 95%; reduce material costs by 5% a year; return to suppliers all Warranty returns within 5 business days of receipt; cycle counts of 10% of inventory value completed monthly; key operating metrics updated at least monthly and posted.
  • Chair monthly operations/quality review meeting.
  • Manage Atlas global quality organization to ensure the company quality program is managed to customer, industry, and Atlas requirements (manufacturing quality standards, reliability, safety, etc.)
  • Drive process improvement (i.e kaziens and 4S) and cost reductions by using continuous improvement tools. Teach others to use continuous improvement methodologies to drive out waste.
  • Manage, problem solve and visually display key performance indicators such as lead time, order accuracy, on-time delivery, cost of quality, safety, productivity, and inventory. Create a culture of problem solving by reviewing KPIs with the team and expect subordinate leaders to review and problem solve KPIs with their teams.
  • Responsible for ensuring a safe work environment; co-facilitate Mount Prospect safety committee
  • Assistance in the direction of environmental, health and safety programs and dealing with regulatory agencies on related matters, as required. Maintain a safe work environment that meets and/or exceeds all applicable OSHA and environmental requirements.

Requirements:


  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Master's degree in management, manufacturing or engineering preferred.
  • A minimum of ten (10) years management experience in a high mix, low volume electronics manufacturing environment
  • Experience with a combination of manufacturing, manufacturing engineering and/or materials management.
  • Experience with measured manufacturing excellence such as Lean Six Sigma
  • Experience moving production activities to low cost regions
  • International supply chain experience preferred.
  • Strong business acumen, analytical thinking and numerical ability, problem solving skills and communications skills (both written and oral) with attention to detail.
  • Highly organized with attention to process and process improvement.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills that include ability to translate technical concepts to a non-technical audience.
  • Change agent that is high energy, results oriented, hard driving with ability to establish rapport with others on a global level.
  • A leadership style that is firm and goal oriented, motivational, ethical, and engaging.
  • Highly strategic but can quickly flex to tactical, forward-thinking and collaborative.
  • Proven ability to successfully handle multiple projects and meet critical deadlines.
  • Must be a team player with excellent interpersonal skills and a commitment to relationship-building, both internally and externally.
  • Demonstrated history of progression through manufacturing ranks within a multi-site setting with successful change implementation and implementing of operational excellence improvements such as lean manufacturing, demand flow, and six sigma.
  • Familiar with a manufacturing machining environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and familiarity with a variety of lean tools and methodologies
