Job Summary



Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Works with incoming and current students/IU meal plan holders, in collaboration with chefs, on special diet accommodations and food allergy/intolerance issues.
  • Consults with customers and provides, as necessary, detailed guidelines to aid them in choosing foods safe and/or appropriate for their consumption.
  • Reviews and assists in planning menus for nutrients, ingredients, and allergens served to the 14,000 meal plan holders.
  • Designs IU childcare menus to meet CACFP guidelines.
  • Along with chefs, the Dietitian plans menus to ensure proper national nutrition standards are maintained throughout the 24,000 meals served daily, ensuring menu signage reflects these allergens.
  • Trains IU Dining staff, and continue development of the talent pipeline (3 established internship programs at this time).
  • Supervises dining system interns, advise system nutrition interns in item and recipe maintenance.
  • Reaches out to vendors to request nutrition/ingredients spec sheets for products for interns to set up ingredients.
  • Ensures accuracy in menu nutritionals and allergen labeling.
  • Maintains accuracy of IU's Net Nutrition site.
  • Works with production managers in fully using CBORD software to their advantage, instruct/team them best practices in maintaining accurate FSS master and service menus for each cycle (Fall, Spring, Summer)
  • Participates on necessary committees regarding food wellness at IU.
  • Collaborates with Auxiliary Business Services Marketing regarding web design and allergen signage for All You Care to Eat locations, campus cafes, and for special event theme meals.
  • Coordinates with established food-related campaigns to provide educational experiences for student awareness, such as Real Food Challenge / Sustainability Efforts, IU's Celebrate Every Body Week in February, National Nutrition Month in March, Food Allergy Awareness, and the Plant-Based Movement/Food Forward.
  • Observes customer preferences and market trends through review of IU's dining operations, other universities in the Big Ten, those within the NACUFS (National Assoc. of College & University Foodservice) organization, and within the hospitality industry.
  • Provides food allergy training to staff (ex. AllerTrain required for chefs, managers, assist. Managers; offer AllerTrain Lite for production/cooks staff); Maintaisw IU's profile on FARE's online Food Allergy College Search.
  • Provides simplified overview of food allergy training to student employees at HireMe annually in early August; Ensure Net Nutrition and food allergy accommodations are promoted at new student orientation/advise incoming students how to self-advocate/inform parents of allergy accommodations; Collaborate with stakeholders on campus: IU Athletics, IU Health and Wellness Registered Dietitians, VegIU, the Student Meal Plan Committee, IU's School of Public Health, IUB Wellness Coalition, COPE (eating disorders team), and Sustain IU/Office of Sustainability.
General Responsibilities
  • Plans, manages, and evaluates nutritional services for clients.
  • Develops and delivers education programs to raise knowledge of nutrition and healthy eating behaviors.
  • Provides nutrition oversight for university's healthy and sustainable food directives, goals, and programs.
  • Provides oversight and administrative support for employee biometric screening program.
  • Serves on wellness committees and professional organizations to support a mission of health and wellness education.



Qualifications



EDUCATION



Required



  • Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Nutrition, Community Nutrition, or Dietetics


Preferred



  • Master's degree in Public Health, Nutrition, Community Nutrition, or Dietetics

WORK EXPERIENCE



Required



  • 3 years providing nutrition counseling


Preferred



  • Food services experience

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES



Required



  • Registered Dietitian through the Commission of Dietetic Registration (CDR) upon date of hire

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills

  • Strong facilitation and coaching skills




Working Conditions / Demands



This role requires sedentary work as well as extended durations of moving about the workplace. It requires the ability to move objects and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds, and the ability to discern between various objects and devices and to position patients. The person in this position should have the ability to stand or walk for long periods required occasionally. Environments include heat, cold, and particulate in the air at dining locations. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Advertised Salary



$50,000 per year based on experience
