The Applications Architect designs and develops IT applications for the HORNE Enterprise Technology team and the services lines supported by the Firm Services focus area.

Essential functions

  • Develops enterprise-level applications and custom integration solutions including major enhancements and interfaces, functions and features.

  • Uses a variety of platforms to provide automated systems applications to customers.

  • Provides expertise regarding the integration of applications across the business.

  • Determines specifications, then plans, designs, and develops software solutions, utilizing appropriate software engineering processes either individually or in concert with project team.

  • Develops programming and development standards and procedures as well as programming architectures for code reuse.

  • Maintains knowledge of state-of-the art programming languages and object-oriented approaches in designing, coding, testing and debugging programs.

  • Understands and consistently applies the attributes and processes of current application development methodologies.

  • Researches and maintains knowledge in emerging technologies and possible application to the business.


Supervisory responsibilities



  • May provide leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to a subordinate group


Work environment



  • This position is remote, with occasional travel to meet organizational or client needs. 


Physical demands



  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds at times.

Travel required



  • Estimated at 10% annually, dependent upon business needs


 Required education and experience


(Indicate requirements that are job-related and consistent with business necessity)



  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or relevant field; or equivalent work experience

  • At least 5-6 years of experience related experience

  • Exposure to best practices for SOC2 and HIPPA security frameworks


Preferred education and experience (Indicate background, experience, skills that are not required to perform the job but would be helpful to the business in this role)



  • Experience with Agile methodologies

  • Experience with Microsoft Azure storage and compute services

  • Experience with programming languages such as C#, VB.NET, Python, PowerShell, JavaScript
