The Advanced Manufacturing Engineer II (AME) will function as a member of the Operations Extended team working on New Product Development (NPD) initiatives for Advanced Surgical Technologies and Global Operations and Supply Chain function at the North Haven Manufacturing site. The AME will be responsible for assisting in the development, qualification, launch and commercialization of surgical instruments and devices. This position will work with and be mentored by senior and principal level Advanced Manufacturing Engineers in the commercialization of these medical devices.

The AME will assist in the development of the commercialization strategy for the product. The commercialization strategy entails the development, validation and qualification of assembly equipment and tooling as well as the development and qualification of the product. These strategies will be developed during the Opportunity and Commitment stages followed by the execution of these strategies during the Launch and Commercialization phases. The position is in a fast-paced, collaborative environment that is supportive of program initiatives and compliant with the company's best practices, Tenets and Philosophy.


  • Work to develop processes and methods for the fabrication and assembly of medical and surgical devices. This includes the development of fixtures, machinery, and automation to produce these devices.

  • Participate in Design for Assembly (DFA) / Design for Manufacturing (DFM) activities to verify manufacturability of product designs

  • Actively participate in PFMEA, DFMEA, Process Mapping, and Critical to Quality (CTQ) and First Time Quality reviews assuring specifications are well defined and documented

  • Develop quote packages and author User Requirements Specifications (URS) for equipment and tooling, interact with suppliers during the quoting process, ensure supplier adherence to URS , and help oversee manufacture and qualification of assembly equipment and tooling

  • Participate in the development of capital expense requests, project schedules, make-buy analysis and other business process documents

  • Develop protocols and execute factory acceptance testing (FAT) on all purchased tooling, systems, and fixtures

  • Create process documentation including standard work instructions, control plans and job safety analysis sheets

  • Create process flows, assembly line layouts, balance tables, assembly capacity analysis, and EHS project plans

  • Develop protocols and execute line validation / qualification activities including IQ, OQ , MSA and PQ

  • Create testing protocols for product and tooling evaluations, perform or oversee testing and summarize findings in Engineering reports.

  • Actively participate in Lean and Medtronic Performance Systems (MPS) initiatives to stabilize production lines and reduce the time to transfer to Plant

Must Have: Minimum Requirements


  • Bachelor's degree in engineering required

  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with 0 years relevant experience

Nice to Have


  • Bachelor's degree required (BS Mechanical Engineering , Mechanical Engineering Technology, BS Manufacturing Engineering, or Manufacturing Engineering Technology preferred)

  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment, preferably with assembly equipment and automation

  • Familiarity with DFA and DFM principles

  • Experience troubleshooting production issues and continuous improvement of processes

  • Working knowledge of FMEA

  • Experience with process Validations and Qualifications (IQ / OQ / PQ / MSA's)

  • Familiarity with Lean Principles, Toyota production System and/or 6 Sigma Methodology

  • Familiarity with GD&T principles

  • Familiarity with statistical analysis including capability, process control, DOE's, control charts, etc. Minitab experience preferred, but not mandatory

  • Basic understanding of Industrial Engineering principles including balance tables, process flow diagrams, line lay-outs, ergonomic designs, etc.

  • Experience with CREO / Windchill or other 3D modeling software

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$79,200.00 - $118,800.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
