Job Summary



The Assistant Director for Internal Operations will serve as the primary event operations manager for varsity athletics and is responsible for day-to-day NCAA and Conference Compliance Responsibilities. The Assistant Director will coordinate operations and event management for varsity events including serving as tournament director for select conference and NCAA post-season events hosted by UChicago and assist with special projects as assigned by the Director of Athletics and Recreation. The successful candidate must demonstrate strong communication skills, the ability to multi-task and a commitment to fully engaging and embracing an educational and inclusive environment. The Assistant Director reports to the Deputy Athletics Director for Internal Operations and will work with the Director of Athletics and Recreation and Deputy in their respective areas of oversight. This position is intended to provide a full breadth of experiences and responsibilities within the athletic department to allow for transition and advancement into more senior level positions.



Responsibilities



  • Assist with daily responsibilities for NCAA Compliance.


  • Assist with daily responsibilities within intercollegiate compliance and support the UChicago system wide compliance program and structure of promoting a culture of ethical behavior and help ensure compliance with applicable policies, laws, and regulations.


  • Manages logistics for event operations of varsity teams and varsity-related events (alumni relations events).


  • Provides game management oversight with event-day onsite responsibilities.


  • Responsible for hiring and assigning student workers for home games and responsible for student worker payroll.


  • Assist with the initial eligibility process for incoming international student-athletes.


  • Assist with roster management and maintaining databases.


  • Assist with compliance rules education for coaches, staff, and student-athletes.


  • Monitors on campus official and unofficial recruiting visits.


  • Assist with the preparations of various reports, waivers, and appeals to appropriate governing bodies within the NCAA and UAA.


  • Administer and monitor progress for the annual coaches certification exam.


  • Leads marketing and promotion of contests.


  • Provides leadership and on-site coordination as designated tournament director for conference and NCAA hosted events.


  • Compiles data/information for projects assigned by Director of Athletics and Recreation.


  • Responsible for training office staff on office procedures and compliance protocols. Coordinates special projects.


  • Researches and analyzes data to create reports and may create other reports for grants and contracts.


  • Performs other related work as needed.





Minimum Qualifications




Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

  • Master's degree in related field.





Experience:



  • Working knowledge in athletics in a scholastic setting.


  • Background in college athletics.


  • Experience with game management responsibilities and/or event management/operations.





Technical Skills or Knowledge:



  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
