Job Description:

Family Specialist Job Responsibilities:

  • Conduct intakes with families and children to gather necessary information for service delivery.
  • Using Trauma Informed Care, assess clients' needs and goals to determine appropriate resources, including referral to other services to ensure comprehensive approach to planning and development of Case Management Services Plans.
  • Complete screenings & assessments with participants to determine group appropriateness and evaluate other needs.
  • Develop Case Management Services Plans with assigned children, youth and adolescents that includes linkages to community services and resources.
  • Provide parent supportive services through individual sessions, workshops and/or family events for children and their families.
  • Conduct home visits or individual meetings to provide parenting support as needed.
  • Using curriculum and/or materials, develop creative ways to teach and guide facilitative groups (children, youth and adolescents and parents) through various sessions.
  • Facilitate psycho-educational support groups for children, youth and adolescence impacted by domestic violence and children impacted by sexual abuse.
  • Facilitate healthy relationships and sexual health evidenced based education program targeting middle school students and schools.
  • Participate in youth focus activities such as outreach, youth conferences, and community meetings to promote prevention programs targeting youth.
  • Collaborate with school counselors, social workers, therapists, psychologist, and/or other providers to enhance the physical, emotional, and psychological wellbeing of children served through the Mi Arco iris Program.
  • Plans, coordinates, and monitors program outcomes and needs to ensure services are consistent with established performance standards.
  • Conduct community educational outreach activities and presentations to the public.
  • Coordinate services with Division of Milwaukee Child Protective Services.
  • Prepares monthly and biannual reports on program outcomes.
  • Attends meetings, conferences & workshops as assigned, performs special projects and other related duties as needed.

  • Family Specialist Job Qualifications:
  • B.A. Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Behavioral Management, Counseling, or related field.
  • A minimum of one 1-year experience working with individuals impacted by domestic violence and/or sexual assault.
  • Minimum one year working independently with children of various ages in groups/individual settings and/or group facilitation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of providing case management and/or coordinating client care.
  • Knowledge of supportive counseling methods, techniques, and trauma informed care principles.
  • Able to demonstrate through knowledge, training, or experience in working with children and their families that have been impacted by domestic violence and/or sexual assault.
  • Bilingual in Spanish/English verbal and written.
  • Must be able to work evening hours and/or weekends.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license, reliable transportation and have adequate insurance.

    Physical Demands:

  • Employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, bend.
  • Occasionally required to lift and /or move up to 30 lbs.
  • Frequently required to drive.
  • Frequently exposed to moderate temperature encountered in a controlled temperature environment and outside setting.
  • Noise level in this work is usually semi-moderate.

  • Tools & Equipment Used:
  • iPad, iPhone, laptop computers, projectors, copy/scanner machine, computer.
  • Be able to scan documents and encrypt documents as necessary
  • Use first aid equipment, fire extinguisher.

  • Usage varies by position.
