General Schedule


Position typically works Monday-Friday from 8am-5pm in-office at UCO's main campus in Edmond, Oklahoma.



Position Overview


The Communication and Engagement Specialist plays an important role in the UCO Foundation and Alumni Engagement and is responsible for marketing and communication efforts for the department. Individuals in this role will manage the social media content and calendar for the department, see project requests and solicitations through to completion, and build and distribute email communication. This role helps manage the UCO Foundation and Alumni Engagement website and will create registration pages and donation pages in support of departmental efforts. Superb writing skills are required as this individual will be creating effective social media and web content, press releases, feature stories, and more. Creativity is a must as this role involves designing applicable pieces for marketing outreach that include fliers, digital graphics, brochures, programs, and more.



Job Duties



  • Source, write and edit digital content for alumni, prospects and donors; content can include news releases, feature stories, newsletters, event communication, stewardship materials, and social media posts.

  • Monitor digital presence and website to ensure all digital communication is consistent with university style and brand guidelines, grammatically correct, free of typos, and generally reflective of excellence.

  • Successfully navigate various platforms, including Blackbaud NetCommunity, Blackbaud Raiser's Edge, Buffer and Canva.

  • Create emails on Blackbaud NetCommunity, create and edit web content, source appropriate images and related platform tasks as assigned. HTML knowledge is suggested.

  • Utilize social media management and project management software.

  • Interview donors, faculty, and students for features, as well as other alumni, parents, and friends of the university as needed.

  • Collaborate with internal and external teams in the execution of capital campaigns in order to convey marketing messaging to key stakeholders.

  • Maintain a calendar of approved alumni engagement and foundation solicitations.

  • Coordinate and support a variety of Advancement events following budget guidelines and requests that serve to recognize and engage donors.

  • Create event registration pages through Blackbaud NetCommunity that can include fundraising events, annual conferences, alumni engagement events, golf tournaments and more.

  • Prepare presentations and print or other digital materials for special events or departmental meetings as needed.

  • Contribute to stewardship and engagement events within Foundation and Alumni Engagement.

  • Develop supplemental materials such as biographies, backgrounders, talking points, and scripts as needed.

  • Coordinate with major and principal gift officers to develop and implement content strategies for reaching donors and volunteers.

  • Track and report on analytics for social media, website traffic and email response rates to develop the department's most effective communications strategies and tactics.

  • Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to the position and departmental mission.



Qualifications/Experience Required


Requires a university degree in a related field or 4+ years of equivalent work experience in the chosen field that provides knowledge of and exposure to fundamental theories, principles, and concepts.


Must have a valid driver's license, clean driving record, and be able to operate a typical motor vehicle.



Qualifications/Experience Preferred


Experience assisting with social media plans. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite applications such as editing and resizing photos in Adobe Photoshop or Canva. Experience working for a team is strongly preferred.



Knowledge/Skills/Abilities


Candidate must be a strong writer, and a writing test will be required.
Knowledge of HTML is strongly encouraged.
Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn new technology quickly.
Must be able to deliver excellent guest service.
Strong leadership capabilities and interpersonal skills are preferred.
This individual should possess exceptional communication skills both in written form and verbally.
