As a Research Assistant Professor in the Dr. John T. Macdonald Foundation Department of Human Genetics (DHG) and a full member of the John P. Hussman Institute for Human Genomics (HIHG), the faculty member will be expected to fulfill the following role and functions:




  • Develop an extramurally funded research program. The faculty member is expected to submit a minimum of 2 grants as PI/MPI and 1 grant as Co-I annually. He/she is expected to establish and maintain extensive collaborations with members of the HIHG, the DHG and University of Miami faculty members, as well as the larger scientific community.

  • Play a lead role as first author or significant contributor in writing of scientific publications for peer-reviewed journals.

  • Present research at national and international meetings.

  • Participate in the outreach educational initiatives of HIHG and the Department of Human Genetics.

  • Work with Drs. Vance, Young and Pericak-Vance to focus on molecular and functional analysis of genes related to Alzheimer Disease and Related Dementias.

  • Be bi-lingual in English and Spanish to play a major role in the outreach and education and enrollment of individuals of Hispanic/Latino background in Alzheimer Disease research studies.

  • Have experience to develop new approaches to functional analysis of candidate genes for potential drug development.

  • Have clinical training and experience in diagnosing and evaluating patients for clinical research studies.

  • Promote the mission of the HIHG and the DHG by maintaining a presence and leadership role at the national level.


The candidate will have a successful history of academic publications and grant applications. Preference will be given to those that have already established some external research funding. Experience working with genetic data from admixed populations and machine learning/AI is desired.


Requirements: Qualifications include a MD or PhD in a field with a molecular genetics' expertise, clinical diagnostic experience and a background in human genetics research.
