Position Overview



We are interviewing for a full-time ESG/GHG Project Consultant (Level 2) at our downtown Denver or Houston location. Candidates should have approximately 2-5 years of professional experience including at least a year in greenhouse gas accounting, ESG consulting, sustainability planning or related work and be technically competent in manipulating data to tell effective stories. Candidates with less experience are encouraged to apply and will be considered for Project Consultant (Level 1) roles as available.


This position is anticipated to support GHG inventory and assurance work for companies and municipalities, ESG strategy development and reporting, and specific client support on individual reduction and quantification projects. Successful candidates will pair technical savvy related to data management and project implementation with expertise in carbon auditing and accounting, familiarity with ESG frameworks, and the ability to think both creatively and in a focused way to successfully support multiple projects at once.



About Spirit Environmental



Spirit Environmental is a Montrose Environmental Group company. Spirit joined Montrose in July, 2024.


Spirit's sustainability team is growing, and we are looking to add a Project Consultant to our collaborative and forward-thinking office culture. Our current workload is tilted towards making a significant impact in the traditional energy sector, ranging from exploration and production operators through all aspects of the oil and gas supply chain. With a focus on emissions reductions, Spirit is looking for this position to be capable of supporting gas certification efforts, both gap analyses and certification audits, and to be willing to become familiar with the various standards relating to methane intensity and quantification. Additional offerings that would be supported include third party GHG assurance in line with ISO 14064-3 (or equivalent), strategic emissions reduction plans, and complete scope 1-3 build-ups of inventories and internal protocols.


As our client base continues to expand beyond traditional energy, we are looking to leverage experiences and lessons learned from these sectors with experience in more traditional sustainability services to offer complete solutions that are technically strong, and implementation focused. Our goal is to provide comprehensive GHG reduction and ESG strategy support for clients from strategic planning through project implementation and annual reporting/assurance. This includes working with corporate partners in various sectors, municipal governments, real estate services, and other types of institutions with significant environmental footprints. We are also able and willing to grow new service lines that align with staff experience and passion with an eye towards strategic expansions and future growth markets.



Responsibilities:



The selected candidate will be responsible for supporting a variety of our ongoing ESG/GHG projects, as related to their past experience, including but not limited to the following:


  • ISO 14064-3 aligned assurance of greenhouse gas statements and inventories;

  • Natural gas certification efforts, including but not limited to using the MIQ standard;

  • Corporate ESG strategy and reporting;

  • Application of various GHG and Methane specific protocols and certifications to a wide variety of industries;

  • Scenario analysis and development of specific sustainability strategies over defined planning horizons;

  • Development of sustainability and climate action plans for government bodies and private sector clients;

  • Identification of sustainability opportunities and gaps; and

  • Regulatory applicability analyses, to include state, local, and federal regulations.

In addition, the selected Project Consultant will be expected to continue to develop their unique skillsets in conjunction with their Team Lead as Part of Spirit's employee development program.


Additional responsibilities may include:


  • Supporting facilitation of stakeholder groups to gather specific input related to sustainability strategies and outcomes;

  • Development and integration of tools and software to meet client expectations;

  • Integration with partner software platforms to support client information and data transfer;

  • Incentives and grant research; and

  • Working with colleagues to achieve specific project outcomes.

  • Proficiency with MS Office suite (e.g., Teams/ Word/ Excel/ Outlook/ SharePoint/ PowerBI/ Visio) and time/expense tracking software; and

  • Understanding of software and tools applicable to your expertise (e.g., LCA tools, ArcGIS, relevant GHG protocols).


Requirements:



  • B.S. or above in Environmental Science, Public Policy, Planning, Engineering, or related discipline;

  • 2-5 years of experience in sustainability consulting, oil and gas operations, sustainability planning, or a related sustainability field;

  • Effective personal time management skills with multiple projects;

  • A high level of professional ethics;

  • Social skills and professionalism necessary to establish and maintain long-term working relationships with clients and co-workers;

  • This role may require field work that can include climbing staircases, walking or working on uneven surfaces, and the ability to lift light loads; and

  • Limited travel (under 5%).
