Position Summary

The Department of Kinesiology at Michigan State University invites applications for a fixed-term faculty position (non-tenure-track) at the assistant professor rank, slated to begin in August 2025. This hire is part of a significant strategic investment by Michigan State University to advance the Department of Kinesiology. The initiative is in response to the department's consistent and robust growth over the last thirty years. With over 1,500 undergraduate enrollees, the Kinesiology major has evolved into one of the most popular academic programs at Michigan State University and is highly sought-after nationwide. The collective bargaining agreement between the Union of Non-Tenure-Track Faculty (UNTF) and Michigan State University specifies that fixed-term faculty members are eligible to apply for Designation B "during the first month of the eighth or subsequent semester of Academic-Year teaching employment within seven years of the first of these semesters in a given employing unit." Designation B is a multi-year contract appointment predicated on exemplary instructional performance. Fixed-term faculty members attaining Designation B status will receive a contract for no less than three years (typically, 5 years) for the UNTF teaching portion of their assignment and a potential raise in their base salary. Beyond attaining Designation B status, fixed-term faculty members can also pursue advancement through the academic ranks (i.e., promotion to Associate Professor - Fixed-Term and Professor - Fixed-Term) following established evaluation and review procedures.


We are seeking qualified candidates with expertise in exercise and sport psychology. Instructional responsibilities will include introductory and advanced undergraduate lectures and laboratories.



Duties:



  • Teach introductory and advanced undergraduate courses, and possibly graduate courses, in the domain of exercise and sport psychology, according to departmental needs.

  • Advise and mentor students.

  • Provide service relevant to the department, college, university, profession, and community at large.

  • Contribute to intellectual activities within the department.

Required Degree

Doctorate -kinesiology or related field

Minimum Requirements

Doctorate in kinesiology or related field (or evidence that the doctoral degree or equivalent will be completed prior to the start of the appointment).
