Job Description



GPI Geospatial is seeking a LiDAR Technician to work from our Columbia, MD or Orlando, FL office for a role that involves data compilation from LiDAR in a 3D point cloud environment, terrestrial remote sensing field data collection, instrument testing, calibration support, and LiDAR and imagery processing. The ideal candidate is a LiDAR Technician or other mapping technician with a minimum of 1 year of experience. The successful candidate will possess good verbal communication skills, have a positive outlook, and a proven track record in a project-based, schedule-driven environment.

Responsibilities:



  • The LiDAR Technician's primary responsibility is to prepare existing conditions surveys using TopoDOT and MicroStation software. Preparation of existing conditions surveys includes:

    • 3D feature extraction from mobile LiDAR-generated point clouds.

    • Quality Control checks to ensure delineation of break lines and features is accurate.

    • Quality assurance of one's own data set for accuracy, surface/contour generation, crossing chains, feature delineation, project boundary, and mapping scale.



  • The LiDAR Technician's secondary responsibility is to assist with mobile LiDAR data collection mission. Tasks involved in mobile LiDAR data collection include:

    • Operating the mobile LiDAR system as part of a crew,

    • Maintaining the vehicle and scanning equipment,

    • Conducting system testing, troubleshooting, and scanner calibrations.



  • Other responsibilities include:

    • Perform Lidar point cloud registration.

    • Assist with the acquisition of other remote sensing platforms, such as static scanners, NavVis system, and Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS).




Qualifications:



  • 1-2 years of experience using scanning or mapping software.

  • A.S. Degree or certificate in a related course of study or the equivalent work experience.

  • TopoDOT and Microstation experience is strongly preferred.

  • ArcGIS, Autodesk Civil 3D, Leica Cyclone, or other 3D modeling software experience is favorable.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite programs is favorable.




Requirements



MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:



  • Maintain a valid driver's license with a clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for final consideration

  • Ability to travel within the U.S. for project assignments

  • Read, write, and understand plans and directions given in the English language

  • Basic computer skills with the ability to create and edit Microsoft Word and Excel documents, create Outlook emails and utilize SharePoint and Microsoft Teams to communicate with other team members

  • Able to wear GPI Geospatial required PPE, i.e., hard hats, safety vest, work boots, and/or safety glasses/goggles while working
