Job Description:

PURPOSE: To assist Produce Manager in operating produce department while providing prompt, friendly, courteous customer service to meet department objectives.

REPORTS TO: Produce Manager

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Provide day-to-day work direction to other Produce staff, including setting priorities. Help resolve complex or ambiguous issues that arise with customers, employees, equipment malfunctions, etc. Provide on-the-spot support and coaching to ensure excellent performance in all Produce objectives. Schedule staff within payroll allocation and communicate changing staffing needs to Produce Manager.Performance management. Conduct and/or participate in disciplinary documentation and discussions as requested by Produce Manager. Conduct and/or participate in two-month check-ins, four-month evaluations, and annual evaluations as requested. Provide detailed, thorough co-worker evaluations as requested. Work with Produce Manager to ensure that staff complete departmental training and to develop and improve training to ensure excellent staff performance. Model excellent internal and external customer service and policy compliance to staff at all times. Plan and set standards for produce displays, using color and texture to enhance attractiveness. Ensure that signage is clear and attractive and update signage by making new signs and replacing old ones. Set prices to meet margin goals and mark down items as needed to reduce losses. Ensure accurate prices are in scanning system and on department signs. Coordinate special events and promotions with Produce Buyer. Perform periodic price comparisons with competitors. Participate in inventory counts. Provide product information as needed for newsletter, promotions, etc. Ensure that shelves, bins, coolers, and freezers are fully stocked and rotated for freshness. Trim, wash, and bundle produce. Replenish and rotate produce displays, culling several times daily. Dispose of damaged or spoiled goods promptly, recording them on spoilage sheets. Check incoming product for quality and verify piece count and prices. Sign, with date, for deliveries and make appropriate adjustments to invoices and communicate credits to vendor. Help with unloading as needed. Customer service. Assist customers with questions and special orders. Offer samples and suggestions for purchase and preparation in friendly, courteous manner. Convey approachable presence on the sales floor. Communication and cooperation. Communicate to Produce staff via logbook as needed, including information about incoming orders, special orders, price changes, etc.. Ensure that all new developments in policy and procedure are communicated to department staff. Help coordinate, attend, and facilitate at Produce department meetings. Communicate regularly with other Front End staff to ensure department cohesion and customer satisfaction. Work area maintenance. Establish a regular department cleaning program that includes the sales floor, work spaces, and equipment, and maintain cleanliness of produce sales floor, prep, and storage areas by removing trash, cleaning cases, wiping surfaces, picking up, etc. Purchase department supplies. Maintain department equipment, troubleshoot repair problems, and establish procedures for staff to follow in case of breakdowns. Work in a safe manner, following safety procedures, and ensure that other Produce staff work in a safe manner. Follow appropriate procedures when an employee has an accident at work. Perform other tasks as assigned by Produce Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience:

At least two years experience with produce in retail setting Some supervisory experience, including participation in hiring and performance management, coaching, and discipline.Some experience training retail employees, formally or informally

Knowledge:

Knowledge of produce sufficient to educate customers and to train other employeesFamiliarity with retail security practicesDemonstrated ability to work with customers and coworkers from diverse cultural backgrounds. Ability to work with TCCP to create an inclusive environment where all are welcomed.
