DRAFTER AIRCRAFT SYSTEMS

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Assists engineers with test design modifications. Job functions may require specialization in areas of developmental and proof of concept developmental programs. Specific areas may include airborne avionics systems; GPS based Time-Space-Position-Information system, avionics data bus monitoring and control, drone and remote target control systems, RF data links and data acquisition systems. Programs may require expertise in development and systems engineering, circuit design, procurement, fabrication, documentation, configuration management, drafting, laboratory and installed system testing and training. Completed work is reviewed for technical adequacy and satisfaction of requirements. This position requires incumbents to consistently exercise independent judgment while ensuring the safety and security of personnel, equipment, and information under assigned control.

GENERAL DUTIES:

  • Performs non-routine and complex assignments involving responsibility for planning and conducting a complete project of relatively limited scope Top of Form.
  • Primary duties are drafting drawings as assigned by engineers for type 2 aircraft modification projects. Will also be required to research and select suitable modification "kit" components; create bills of materials (BOM); as well as completing and submitting parts requests to Material Coordinators.
  • Selects and adapts plans, techniques, designs, or layouts, in related activities to resolve problems and coordinate work.
  • Reviews, analyzes, and integrates the technical work of others. Supervisor or professional engineer outlines objectives, requirements, and design approaches.
  • Develops designs for equipment without critical performance requirements that are difficult to satisfy such as special purpose circuitry from general guidelines and specifications (e.g., size or weight requirements).
  • Analyzes technical data to determine applicability to design problems; selects from several possible design layouts; calculates design data; and prepares layouts, detailed specifications, parts lists, estimates, procedures, etc.
  • May check and analyze drawings or equipment to determine adequacy of drawings and design.
  • Monitors status and estimated delivery dates for all kit component parts and parts kits for their assigned drawings and performs final inventory of completed kits prior to issue for installation in affected aircraft.
  • Completed drawings must meet appropriate level of intelligence, primarily in regard to BOM and wire numbering to ensure drawings are in compliance with best drafting practices as well as local guidance to ensure the drawings can be easily used and understood by installation technicians.
  • Must be able to quickly report the status and estimated completion date for all drawings assigned to the project Engineer. Flexibility and adaptability in drafting drawings will be required.
  • Coordinates redlines, questions, problems or suggestions regarding layout or guidelines in the RNMDE guidebook with the engineer assigned. Provides input to engineers regarding design and circuitry when appropriate.



Job Requirements:

OTHER DUTIES: Required to ensure the safety and security of personnel, equipment and information under assigned control or oversee lower-level workers who handle hazardous material/hazardous waste. Other job functions may include general site or range activities support, industrial security, general housekeeping, equipment utilization reporting, and other job-related tasks as required.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Associate's degree in a Drafting, technical field, or graduate of a technical military service school
  • Six years of related experience is required.
  • Nine years of related experience may be substituted for education requirement.
  • Must be qualified and experienced with AutoCAD Electrical drafting software as well as the USAF FedLog system and mil-std documentation requirements.
  • Familiarity with aircraft modification process is a plus.

This position requires a Top-Secret security clearance. Candidates must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret security clearance. Supports E-OMS operational objectives. Observes company Quality, Safety, Environmental, Security and Administrative policies; supports Process Improvement.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is normally accomplished indoors but occasionally work assignments may require outside activity under extreme environmental conditions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Will be subject to substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Must be able to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; viewing a computer terminal. May be required to lift, pull, or carry items.
