Summary: Asist in the maintenance and repair and small boat mechanical systems and associated components in accordance with Navy guidance and OEM technical specifications as required.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides technical support under direct supervision relative to the operation, troubleshooting, maintenance and repair of 7 & 11 meter RIB mechanical systems, subsystems and components:
Cummins QSB5.9 & Steyr SE 240 series engines.
Assists in the repair and/or replacement of electrical, mechanical, fuel, exhaust, cooling (hoses, thermostats, belts, valves, strainer), raw water pumps, injectors and injector pumps, turbochargers, alternators, starters, shut-down cables and all associated hardware, throttle control cables, shift cables, electric lift pumps, engine mounts/dampeners, valve adjustments, system flush and fluid replenishment, overhaul of engines and engine swap-outs.
Assists repair and/or overhaul of outdrives & jet drives and associated components.
Assists the replacement of engine-transmission couplers, u-joints, drive shaft support bearings and gimble bearings.
Assists in the Inspect, repair and /or replacement of batteries, battery boxes, cables, terminals and hold-downs; navigation lights; barrel switches; breakers and switches; alarm indicators; loudhailers; gauges; antennas; GPS systems; strobe lights; neutral safety switches; bilge pumps.
Assists in the repair of sponson leaks and/or sponson replacement, to include the replacement of Military Boarding Chafe System (MBCS).
Assists in the repair and/or replacement of seat/backrest cushions, hand rails; consoles, storage box hinges, latches and push pins.
Assists in the maintenance and repair of 7 & 11 MRB trailers.
Operates motor vehicles – shop truck for boat launch and recovery and other transport as required, to include shop forklift.
Maintains shop cleanliness and organization.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum of 2 years' military or general experience in a respective trade with hands on experience repairing and/or maintaining mechanical systems and components.
Ability to use basic hand and power tools.
Ability to follow direction.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Ability to comprehend technical manuals and drawings.
Effective oral and written communication
Basic organizational skills
Possess a valid driver license
Ability to obtain and maintain a base credential (DBIDS).
Preferred Qualifications:
Marine and/or automotive mechanical experience.
ADA Notations:
Ability to work in confined spaces of small craft
Requires walking, reaching, sitting and concentration in the presence of occasional noise
Ability to move in narrow and restricted passageways, up/down steep and narrow ladders or stairways (onboard ships)
Ability to lift, carry and move objects up to 50 lbs in weight
Office, warehouse, pier side, shipboard
Noise conditions range from very quiet to loud
Pay Range:
The pay range for this role is $20.77 to $23.31 hourly. This is a reasonable estimate for this role. Individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
