Overview
Perform cellular, molecular and biochemical analyses, including real time PCR, western blots, and imaging studies with tissue and/or primary neuron and myocyte cultures. Generate new constructs as needed for studies. Contribute to experimental design and overall direction of the project; help to identify and implement the most appropriate methods. Train newcomers to the lab in experimental procedures.
Carry out survival surgery in mice and assess cardiac physiology in vivo and ex vivo. Includes implanting telemetry ECG devices and mini-pumps to support ongoing projects. Contribute to experimental design and overall direction of the project; help to identify and implement the most appropriate methods. Train newcomers to the lab in experimental procedures.
Serve as lab administrator, ordering supplies and animals for the lab in a timely manner. Includes keeping laboratory in good working order, maintaining and ordering supplies, preparing solutions, and assisting other team members as needed. Oversee mouse colonies, ensuring appropriate and timely genotyping and colony maintenance. Maintain records for the colony that can be accessed and understood by others in the lab or remotely.
Documentation and data management: Maintain complete and accurate laboratory records of study procedures and results; back up data regularly, assist with analysis of results. Assist the PI with experimental design and data analysis.
Responsibilities
Master's Degree in relevant field AND 3 years of relevant experience OR
Bachelor's Degree in relevant field AND 5 years of relevant experience
Minimum 3 years of relevant experience after Masters or 5 years of experience after other degree.
Relevant experience must include rodent surgery, cell culture, biochemical methods, and mouse colony maintenance.
Assists in planning experimental design and/or designing research standard operating procedures (SOPs). Assumes responsibility for specific components of research project and trains others. Demonstrates creativity and problem solving ability.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are required. Must have good communication skills and be able to work as part of a team. Exercises judgment in taking independent action, and seeks advice as necessary.
Assists in preparation of written reports and, as applicable, regulatory documentation.
Trains new lab staff in procedures and appropriate record keeping.
Qualifications
Experience quantifying immune cells isolated from animals using flow cytometry, experience with current cloning and other molecular techniques.
