Job Description:


The beautiful Hilton Austin is adding a NEW position to their team! We are looking for a Space Optimization Manager to ensure that all hotel business is assessed, assigned and maintained so that it aligns with our strategic goals. Duties include analysing historical performance, patterns and booking trends using Topline, running reports to ensure strategies are adjusted accordingly and performing group space analysis to place and adjust as needed.

What will I be doing?

Reporting and Analysis


  • Use Topline and FDC reporting to analyse historical performance, booking window trends, lead conversion trends and any other information that will assist with aligning banquets & catering, space and group strategy.
  • Analyse city compression and need dates and identify where alternative dates offers can impact business.
  • Create and oversee updates on helpful tools in Excel to aid in analysing business such as catering free sell, daily business review, space plug, compression calendar, etc.
  • Assist Commercial Team in ad-hoc research including, but not limited to affiliates potential, competitive set rates, individual group historical pace, etc.

Oversee Group/Catering Space in FDC

  • Assist Director of Revenue and Director of Events with mapping of any prospective group space in order to propose to clients aligned with their needs and hotel strategies.
  • Monitor and review future definite business to ensure that space requirements continue to align as business changes and ability to achieve financial goals are maintained.
  • Complete space analysis of historical groups
  • Request space reviews and space back from groups as necessary
  • Monitor and review FDC function diary to ensure optimal straight-line patterns are maintained for booking additional business.
  • Review and approve/deny requests for additional space needed from existing bookings and monitor to ensure that additional space is not added post contract without approval.
  • Complete a post-event analysis as needed for groups with space usage to ensure that repeat groups are right sized for future years.
  • Identify space conflicts and work with the sales/events/catering teams to resolve without impacting layering strategy.
  • Monitor and review Catering free-sell availability.
  • Update and send revised free sell opportunities monthly.
  • Review and approve, as needed, small local catering requests for 3rd floor space outside of free sell parameters.

Meeting and Additional Responsibilities

  • Participate in meetings as necessary with Commercial, Sales and Revenue department heads to ensure strategies are aligned and adjusted as needed.
  • Participate in team meetings with revenue, catering and sales departments as scheduled.
  • Other projects as assigned by Commercial Services Leadership team.

What we are looking for:

To fulfil this role successfully, you should demonstrate the following minimum qualifications:


  • Proven understanding of sales and catering strategy and event services
  • Proficiency with Excel
  • Experience gathering and analysing data
  • Minimum one (1) year of sales, revenue or event experience at a full-service hotel with 200+ rooms
  • Excellent social skills that build trust and instil confidence to empower and influence others
  • Strong problem solving and resolution skills. This includes the ability to effectively address any issue in collaboration with others
  • Ability to work well under high demand and effectively balance multiple and concurrent tasks
  • Strong project/time management and organizational skills
  • Confident presence supported by excellent analytical, written, verbal and presentation skills

It would be helpful in this position for you to demonstrate the following capabilities and distinctions

  • BA/BS Bachelor's Degree
  • Experience in a combination of sales/revenue/event experience at a large (500+ rooms) convention business heavy hotel
  • Proficiency with Delphi FDC
  • Proficiency with Topline reporting
