Responsibilities

What you'll be challenged to do:

Gannett Fleming TranSystems is seeking a Traffic Engineering Intern to join us at our headquarters in Kansas City, MO for the Spring of 2025. The intern will be responsible for assisting project traffic engineers and project managers with design and administrative tasks. Our transportation specialists, located in offices across the nation, are unparalleled in the knowledge of the movement of freight and people, and unmatched in technical and managerial services. We provide full-scale professional services to both public and private sector transportation clients. Our Engineering Co-ops will work within our Traffic Engineering and Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) group for the Midwest region.This role with offer the ability to actively interact with our Traffic Engineering team in developing design plans and/or construction of projects for states, municipalities, and federal government.

• Transforms sketches, layouts, and drawings prepared by others in to project plans using CAD.


• Will learn proficiency in operation of CAD.


• Assignments of increasing difficulty will be submitted as proficiency is increased.


• Gain exposure to design process, from concept to construction.


• Individual is flexible and may work with numerous project teams to help in project completion.


• Maintain neat and orderly work area that will allow access to project information to other team members.


• Actively engages multiple perspectives when solving problems, seeks to learn from peers, and encourages reciprocal learning among team members.

Qualifications

What you bring to our firm:

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in civil engineering.


• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office & MicroStation, and OpenRoads Designer.


• Actively engages multiple perspectives when solving problems, seeks to learn from peers, and encourages reciprocal learning among team members.


• An open, creative mind interested in finding solutions to unique design challenges.

What we prefer you bring to our team:

• Interest in traffic engineering.


• CAD (MicroStation/OpenRoads Designer) experience.

Work Environment:

• The work environment and physical demands described here are representative of those encountered while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, however, construction and field assignments can be severe (construction equipment, jack hammers, etc).


• While performing the duties of this job the employee frequently is required to stand, walk, talk or hear, and drive a car. The employee is occasionally required climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move 10-25 pounds.  No experience required.  Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screening, criminal/civil background check, and motor vehicle records search.
