Job Description:

The Role:



Cancer Vaccine Research at Moderna is seeking a talented and motivated co-op to join our efforts in developing new mRNA-based drugs for cancer therapy. The Co-op will use cell and molecular biology techniques to characterize activity of Moderna's mRNA products to support assay development and translational science. The Co-op will work on an individual project that is important to Moderna Oncology's mission with support from an experienced mentor who will provide guidance on projects and career.


Our co-op program dates are from January - June 2025. Candidates must be available for the entire duration of the program.



Here's What You'll Do:



  • Receive training in lab research techniques and learn how to design, execute studies, and perform data analysis


  • Gain knowledge of cancer models, assay development, and translational science


  • Perform and/or support experiments and assays such as cell processing and isolation, primary cell culture, T cell functional assays, flow cytometry, RNA sequencing, Incucyte, ELISpot/ Fluorospot, ELISA/MSD, mRNA transfections, and data analysis


  • May use Moderna's mRNA products to demonstrate expression and characterize activity of the immuno-oncology therapeutic proteins of interest in relevant experimental systems


  • May use externally sourced samples to characterize targets and markers of translational interest


  • Maintain an organized work area and electronic lab notebook


  • Analyze experimental data and present your work at group and team meetings





Here's What You'll Bring to the Table:



  • Biology, immunology, biochemistry, bioengineering, and related majors are encouraged to apply.


  • Previous co-op experience a plus


  • Technical experience in the following areas is preferred: tissue culture, protein detection methods (MSD, ELISA, ELIspot, flow cytometry), RNA sequencing/ CITEseq, assay development, cell transfection, and troubleshooting


  • Experience with primary cell cultures and flow cytometry data analysis software's is a plus but not necessary


  • The candidate should be self-motivated and possess the desire to drive a project to completion. The co-op must be flexible and can work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.


  • This position is site-based, requiring you to be at Moderna's site full-time. This position is not eligible for remote work.
