Job Description:

Project Accountant



Purpose:


We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Project Accountant to join our finance team. As a Project Accountant, you will play a key role in ensuring financial accuracy and supporting project management teams by reviewing budgets, preparing invoices, and providing financial reports. Your primary responsibilities will include monitoring project costs, preparing pre-billing reports, and assisting with cash flow management. You will report to the Accounting Supervisor and work closely with project managers to deliver timely financial insights and support project success.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Report to the Accounting Supervisor or project managers as needed

  • Review and manage project budgets, including staffing, work plans, and fee structures

  • Provide project managers and clients with accurate and timely financial reports, budgets, and forecasts

  • Prepare pre-billing reports for project managers to review

  • Assist with cost reporting, working capital analysis, and tax reports

  • Monitor receivable income and assist project managers with collections

  • Generate and issue invoices, purchase orders, and pay consultant, subcontractor, vendor, and supplier bills

  • Ensure smooth cash flow by auditing and processing invoices on time

  • Update contracts based on client requirements and manage budget amendments accordingly

  • Proficient in electronic accounting systems such as FINSYNC and FreeAgent


Required Qualifications and Experience:


  • Bachelor's Degree in accounting or equivalent experience

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) preferred

  • 2 to 5 years of experience as a project accountant or in a similar role

  • Strong understanding of financial forecasting, budgeting, and reporting

  • Experience working with accounting software and systems

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams


Physical Demands and Working Conditions:


Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at a time.
