Supports Bus Operations, Rail Operations, Transit Police/Security, and Maintenance Divisions in the maintenance of RTD portable and on-board electronic equipment used for daily dispatch and operator functions, data collection, closed circuit video capture and collection. Maintains mobile and portable two way radios and repeater systems. Performs bench repair of electronic equipment. This is a safety sensitive position and is subject to the rules and regulations of the District Substance Abuse Policy.

Duties & Responsibilities:    
ESSENTIAL:


  •  Install, de-install, troubleshoot, and repair complex networks of on-board electronic, communications, and computer devices used in Computer Aided Dispatch/Automated Vehicle Location (CAD/AVL) systems, communications systems, fare collection systems, video recording equipment, and passenger information equipment.

  •  Install, troubleshoot, and repair electrical, signal, and Ethernet wiring for electronic equipment, including antennas and antenna cabling.

  •  Configure, test, and troubleshoot complex equipment using a laptop or tablet computer and associated diagnostic equipment.

  •  Create and complete electronic work orders, capturing work activities performed, parts and materials used, and time spent on activities. Maintain electronic inventory records of all equipment installed or de-installed.

  •  Operate a company utility vehicle and maintain an inventory of replacement equipment and supplies needed for repairs. Track all equipment and supplies used from utility vehicle inventory, return defective equipment with documented failure and replenish stock with working equipment to be used on RTD buses, light rail vehicles, security, and support vehicles.

  •  Perform electronic bench repairs to the component level of electronic equipment.

  •  Performs other duties as assigned.

 
Qualifications:    


  • 5 years of experience in the installation, maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of electronic equipment

  •  5 years of current experience in wiring practices and applications used in data communications and DC voltage

  •  Demonstrated journeyman experience in the use of electronic test equipment such as VOM, power meter, service monitor, and electronics related tools such as soldering iron, various crimpers, strippers, as well as basic hand tools

  •  Experience in the use of standard data communications protocols similar to or including IP, UDP, TCP, FTP, etc.

  •  Experience in configuring communications devices

  •  Familiar with data communications OSI model

  •  Must be able to read and understand flowchart diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals

  •  Ability to obtain a required Colorado Commercial Driver's License Class B with P2 endorsement OJT

  •  Ability to work and drive in all types of weather conditions

  •  Must possess a valid driver's license continually for the past 2 years. No DUI, DWI, or reckless driving in the past 5 years.

 PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:


  •  Associates Degree or Technical Certification in Electronics Technology, Electronic Communications Technology, or similar discipline

  •  A current FCC license

 OR

  •  An equivalent combination of education and experience consistent with the required qualifications as determined by the District in conjunction with the hiring manager.

Pay Range:

$34.15 - $37.14 Hourly
