Job Description:
Under limited supervision and direction of the Network Support WAN IT Supervisor, this position will be responsible for planning, design, development, optimization, documentation, maintenance, and performance of the WAN routing network hardware/software used by the Office of the Chief Information Officer to support the State of Nebraska's data communication network.
This position is Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm in person located at 200 South Silber, North Platte, NE 69101
Job duties
Perform installation, operation, trouble shooting, and repair of network hardware, network hardware/software provided by the Office of the CIO to include LAN/WAN hardware/software, network firewalls, switches, edge routers, and monitoring tools
Hardware and Software upgrades and or patches.
The individual in this position will possess the skills to be able to configure, install and document all aspects of a network such as enterprise switches, firewalls, and routers.
Ability to optimize network performance, and diagnose and resolve network and system problems expeditiously. Some after hours and weekend work may be required.
Work with other state agencies and counties during installation, trouble shooting, and coordinating.
Independently complete service request and incident request tickets.
Work with other team members completing tasks and projects.
Requirements/Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Associate degree in computer science and three years of related technical and business experience. Two years of related technical and business experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis. OR Post high school coursework in computer science and four years of related technical and business experience
Preferred Qualifications:
The successful Candidate will have had hands-on experience with data networking hardware and software such as firewalls, switches, routing, network monitoring in a network environment.
Good written and oral communications skills are necessary.
Knowledge of WAN networking to include switching, routing, and network firewalls.
Knowledge of Enterprise firewall and routing
Working knowledge of network security devices is also preferred.
Cisco and/or Firewall Network certifications are desired.
Other: Regular and reliable attendance is required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of information technology theory, principles and practices. Knowledge of computer hardware, software, local and wide area network systems. Knowledge of client/server network protocols and Internet/Intranet applications. Knowledge of troubleshooting data networks and troubleshooting tools. Skill in delivering responsive, quality customer service. Ability to write clear and concise documentation of systems and procedures. Ability to successfully apply information engineering techniques; ability to effectively userelational databases; ability to effectively test and debug systems and programs. Ability to accurately estimate time and cost requirements in project development and implementation. Ability to read, understand and apply information from technical manuals. Ability to plan, organize, meet schedules and time lines for assigned work.
