The Doe Run Company is seeking a Raw Materials Buyer in collaboration with the Vice President of Sales and Marketing, the Raw Materials Buyer will contribute significantly to the operational and financial performance of our Resource Recycling Division. The primary responsibility is to ensure that lead-bearing raw materials from non-toll sources are obtained and consistent with BRRD’s capabilities at a suitable cost. This is a Hybrid position based out of our Corporate Office in St. Louis, MO.


This position offers a competitive base pay and is eligible for the Company variable pay (bonus) plan.  Benefits start first day and include insurance, paid time off, and various customer discount programs. 


Education & Experience: 



  • Prefer a minimum of 2 years of experience purchasing/trading scrap metals and lead acid batteries.

  • Exposure to sales contracts interpretation and implementation is a plus.

  • Science background a plus.

  • Demonstrated excellence in customer service experience.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in any business or a science-related field, or equivalent experience with scrap metals and/or lead acid batteries.

  • Proficiency using Microsoft Excel and Outlook.

  • Ability to “cold call” new potential suppliers.

  • Capability to source & negotiate. 

  • Ability to effectively communicate at all levels of an organization.

  • Tenacity, integrity, and ability to work efficiently under pressure. 

  • Proactive approach to identifying and anticipating customer needs and objections. 


Responsibilities: 



  • Source raw materials from scrap metal dealers and lead acid battery distributors.

  • Prepare and analyze budgets, forecasts, invoices, and commercial reports as well as various agreements.

  • Find, source, and negotiate the purchase of spent lead acid batteries and other forms of lead-bearing materials from scrap metal dealers/traders and battery distributors. This includes finding new sources of supply.

  • Oversee the preparation of various commercial reports, analyze the data and make recommendations.

  • Maintain a solid understanding of the Resource Recycling Divisional capabilities (environmental, process, storage) and other regulatory requirements associated with buying, receiving, and processing various lead bearing materials.

  • Review and approve raw material settlement reports and assays for buy/sell accounts.

  • Keep apprised of material specific to each supplier’s account including scrap pricing and marketplace competition.

  • Research and resolve supplier complaints and non-conformances.


Work Environment, Physical & Lifting Requirements: 



  • Work is generally performed in a standard office setting and regular travel to suppliers (30%+ local & overnight travel) and customer locations.

  • Regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, and to talk and hear; frequently required to stand, walk, and perform a repetitive movement. Requires clarity of vision at 20 inches or less.

  • May be required to lift up to 15 pounds.
